As exciting as this team is next year should be even better

Not only should we be able to trade Romo for a defensive starter (Sheldon Richardson is my pick)
We will likely be in position to sign a significant FA for the first time in a while (Eric Berry is my choice)

Plus with a little luck Jaylon Smith will make his debut (Hopefully good as new)

Plus another draft while our draft gurus are firing on all cylinders.

These are exciting times to be a Cowboys fan and it should get even better. IMO

Agreed. I doubt we go on another one of these runs next season, but the team should be built much better for the playoffs.

The future does look bright especially with some added talent on defense.
You just never know how it will play out and we have been here before.
Exciting times for cowboys fans but it's also possible that this is our best chance.
Things are lining up nicely for this yrs squad.

I cannot believe people think we can trade Romo for anything worthwhile.

Yeah, there wont be a single team looking for a hall of fame caliber QB next year. Freaking Bradford was traded for a first rd pick. Have you seen the trash the Jets are running out at QB?

I know Romo is a risk but I will bet there are teams interested. Could even be a bidding war.

Every year is a new season in the NFL and anything can (and does) happen, however, having said that I whole-heartedly agree with your sentiment.

I believe the Cowboys have built a terrific foundation which should position them for a long stretch of playoff appearances.

Yup and the good news is that we can now just focus on defense for the draft. Only offensive position we might have to take in the first 3 rounds is WR if T-Will isn't resigned. But we're gonna be adding at least 2 high round draft picks to the defense combined with Jaylon Smith (and Randy Gregory?)... I can't wait!

On today December 8th the birthday of Jim Morrison its important to remember his words.
"The future's uncertain and the end is always near"

after 03 we were a running back away, 04 was a disaster.
07 we were a corner back away, 08 was a disaster
09 we were good enough to win it all and had all the parts and 10 was a disaster.
after 14 we were a pass rush away, 15 was a disaster.

Next year is next year and who knows what it will be.

I will say the thought of a free agent like eric berry is very slim, I don't think this team will be in those types of sweepstakes again.

What I love about the foundation is it is the Salary Cap can be easily manipulated.

The offensive linemen (Tyron and Fred and soon Martin) are on long term deals and we can redo their contracts at will creating more cap space.
I normally don't like this strategy especially when they used Romo to do it but with O-lineman it is different. They tend to stay healthy and they rarely turn into divas forcing you to dump one and eat cap space.

Not only that but Once Romo is gone it will add 5 mil next year and the following year will create a ton of space.

We can sign FA's if we want.

The best part is our starting qb is costing next to nothing while on most teams it is their biggest hit.

I love what has been done.

Every season is unique, unfortunately there is very little carry over from year to year for most teams. I'll bet the Panthers ended last season feeling pretty good about 2016.

That's true.

You never know what's going to happen as far as injuries and such.

For that matter next year's team could slip into the playoffs as the last wildcard and end up getting further in the playoffs... You just never know.

If we trade Romo before June 1st we gain 5.1 mil $. But thats what we had to do to trade for someone like Richardson. We are +10 over the cap right now in 2017.

We have to sign Martin and make some other decissions ( Williams for example).

I dont see us making bis splashes in FA next year. In fact i see us playing it very low in FA even with our own FAs.

Only
One other thing about next year is the first place schedule we will be playing
Only two games are affected by your division position. And you never know if the two other first place teams week be good again next year.

I don't either... At least nothing that will endanger the comp pick they'll get for Leary.

The market for pass rushing DE's is bad.
