As exciting as this team is next year should be even better

We just aren't big players in FA anymore, whether we have the cap space or not. I can see us resigning our own for the most part, but don't expect any kind of splash in Free Agency, either now or in the future. We focus on value signings now.

If we trade Romo before June 1st we gain 5.1 mil $. But thats what we had to do to trade for someone like Richardson. We are +10 over the cap right now in 2017.

We have to sign Martin and make some other decissions ( Williams for example).

I dont see us making bis splashes in FA next year. In fact i see us playing it very low in FA even with our own FAs.
This is whats real. We have some serious pieces to extend.Romo gives us space to continue on the path.

And why did they do that? It's not a sign cut and dried as some would like to believe.

They did that because they had no QB and had a great defense and felt Bradford could put them over the top. You know, like Houston and Denver.

Next season is an unknown. A lot can go wrong then that has gone right now.

I'll always have hope though with that RB and OL.

I take nothing for granted in the modern NFL. The good vibes of 2014 seemed like ancient history after a few games into 2015.
Yep. If there is one thing I learned in the salary cap era NFL is that the NFL it is impossible to predict how your team will be year after year. This is a year to year league. So I just enjoy the ride now and hope we can finish the job and hope for the best in 2017.

I do not see the love affair with Richardson, he would be DT here and right now it may be full of world beaters him being here would not upgrade the pass rush enough. Jets would make out with that trade.

Except for the fact that Houston is locked in on Osweiler and Denver has Simien and used a 1st rounder on Lynch to be their guy, yeah, sure.

Houston is not locked in, it is basically a 2 year deal, Simien is average at his very best and Lynch could use a couple of years behind a vet QB.

Anyway, I'm not saying for sure someone will give a first for Tony but a QB desperate team with a good defense certainly could.

We will eventually find out.

The Cowboys won't be big players in free agency for the foreseeable future. Firstly, they don't need to be, and second, given the future contracts they have coming, they can't afford to be.

But it won't stop fans from continuing to dream...
This times 1000.

Maybe more.

I'll agree that we will find out. It's pointless to speculate about it until it happens.

Not only should we be able to trade Romo for a defensive starter (Sheldon Richardson is my pick)
We will likely be in position to sign a significant FA for the first time in a while (Eric Berry is my choice)

Plus with a little luck Jaylon Smith will make his debut (Hopefully good as new)

Plus another draft while our draft gurus are firing on all cylinders.

These are exciting times to be a Cowboys fan and it should get even better. IMO
The reality is that we will most likely trade Romo for draft picks. Most likely a 3rd, MAYBE a 2nd, rounder. I hope we don't go cash crazy in FA. I hope we can sign players who will contribute but they don't break the bank. We build through the draft and supplement through FA.

I don't want Williams back, I'd rather get a smarter more reliable outside receiver. Need to absolutely improve this D. As for Carolina, they lost Norman...other than that did they stand pat in the off season. I'm sure they felt good, but losing a good defensive player and standing pat is usually never good.

One other thing about next year is the first place schedule we will be playing

That's only two games and we won't know how much harder those two games could be until next year. For instance, we are playing TB (last place schedule) vs CAR (1st place schedule) and SF(last) vs ARZ(1st) this year. As you can see there isn't that much difference between the 1st place and last place schedule this year.
