Aikman: "If I were Tony, I'd want to play this week"

It may mean a great deal if Aikman didn't use those words. Aikman's actual quote is his concern about Romo being rusty. It has nothing to do with Romo's desire to play. If Aikman didn't use those words, it's Hill, not Aikman, who is intentionally insinuating that Romo doesn't want to play in a live game.
I agree that it looks like some highly questionable (not to mention unnecessary) paraphrasing on Hill's part.

But hey, I clicked.

Why are you assuming they're miserable? Because their view differs from yours?

I swear, I'm not sure that straw-men feel more at home anywhere in the world than they do on these forums.
Well they act miserable. I can understand if we're 8-8 or having another unbelievable loss that we're used to but there hasn't been anything this year to complain about. I just don't get it. I think people like to complain just to hear themselves doing it.

“If I was in Tony’s position and hadn’t played in so long, I would want live reps,” Troy Aikman said during a radio interview on 1310 The Ticket. “Practice wouldn’t be enough for me. I know what practice is for a quarterback. It’s not game speed. Not even close. I would want to get out there and play.”

For competitive guys like this, nothing is ever enough. Fortunately, it is not their decision.

Well I personally think they don't want Tony going out there, throwing darts, thus giving the media ammunition to cause more of a controversy.

But its not smart to hold him back cause of what the media and such think, we might need him if something happens to Dak....ala the fibula epidemic going around in the water.
Tony throwing darts?
The legend grows

What's next Tony handles kicks over 53 yards?

Tony's not playing because I'm sure Jerry and Tony have decided it's not a good idea if he's going to be released

Tony should play, if to just prove he won't automatically combust as soon as he steps on the field.....as even some on this board think.

The team must be thinking that if they're afraid to give him a few snaps. It took only 5 passing attempts in preseason to lay him out.

I don't blame anyone for considering the possibility. I do blame anyone for using that belief as a discussion defense because it's weak.

In my opinion, Romo will play on another team next year. However, the discussion defense tactic infers that Romo cannot leave Dallas because he *will* suffer a *debilitating injury* playing elsewhere, which is a possibly but not a certainty.

Additionally, the discussion defense tactic is used whenever the possibility of Prescott suffering a temporary or season ending injury is introduced into conversation, *validating* that Romo's re-introduction into the offense would be meaningless since he would get knocked off the field immediately. Could happen but there is only one way of knowing that is a certainty.

Conversely, the discussion defense tactic has been employed but quickly followed up by inferences that Romo's re-introduction into the offense would be fruitless because he would be the cause of a regular season or post season loss because of an *expected* interception(s) or fumble(s)--which is illogically based since he would not be physically capable of doing either IF he were sidelined immediately after taking the field. Again, there is only one way to validate such concern.

The Romo Concern is just one of a several past, present, and most likely future arguments that are fueled by resentment and fear. It's an unnecessary slight against him. It's an unnecessary discussion affiliation for Prescott. While it does wield power within media discussion because the media uses it for personal gain, it should not factor among public opinion in my sole opinion. Why? It should have played out a long long LONG time ago. It definitely should have played out once the franchise decided to not disrupt *team chemistry*. And yet, it lives on today. And robustly so.

That's some details right there! Thanks for taking the time to elaborate on that.

The way I see it, it's not a valid argument for either side because nothing is provable or certain.

For me, while I love Romo, I'm happy to be getting off of the roller coaster of hoping he stays healthy.

And I don't question anyone who questions his ability to stay healthy. It's been proven time and time again so it's more reasonable to think that he will get hurt again than to believe that he won't. The evidence is clear, and nobody outside of Cowboys forums believes that he'll stay healthy.

Not a knock of the player or the man, but a realization of his situation.

Exactly. Mission accomplished. On to the next distortion of facts for Hill.
I don't want to jump the gun and say for certain without confirmation that Hill deliberately misconstrued Aikman's words without knowing first everything Aikman said BUT it seems like that's what Hill did. Yes, it's a common thing for the media to do in today's everything goes social media era but it's wrong regardless. Hill should be called out on it if he's guilty of doing it AND the public should consider only what Aikman has actually said instead of considering what Hill implied.

I don't see anyone complaining just to hear themselves doing so. I see people taking issue with a questionable decision and giving their reasons for doing so. You disagree with their reasons. That's good reason to resist their argument. But it's no reason to pretend they're not making one.

scratching head......I don't even know what you're talking about or what crooked logic you're using - I guess Troy wants Romo to get hurt as well.

That's because I wasn't addressing my comments to you.

I said that some posters here doesn't want Romo to play under any circumstances. I disagree with that stance and agree with Troy's stance.

Is that better? Or do we need to write it in crayon for you?

Troy being honest rather than a homer has turned a lot of Cowboy FANS against him at least on this board.

Everybody has an opinion

Troy is my all-time favorite Cowboy, and his being honest only increases my admiration and respect for him.

Many here have lost respect for him due to him being honest especially when it comes to the Cowboys. FANS want him to him to be like Micheal Irvin during preseason telecasts. Troy's candidness has some on this board thinking he's turned his back on the organization. lol He's receiving almost as much hate on this board as Joe Buck.

I would rather Romo stay on the bench. Dak is getting all of the 1st team reps at practice and will probably play at least the 1st quarter. When Dak exits the game then I am sure he will be joined by Dez, Elliott, Witten, Beasley, TWill, and a couple of offensive lineman. I am not sure what we gain by putting Romo in the game (on the road) and watching him get killed by the Philly starting defense. You know Philly is going to play their starters the entire game and try to win this game. We need Romo healthy and we need people to remember how Romo played in the past so hopefully we can convince a team to give us more in a trade. Last thing we need is Romo getting hurt or playing bad so his value drops.

And I understand there is live game speed rust involved.

Heaven forbid Dak gets hurt and Tony has to try and play rusty. He would never hear the end of "see romo sucks, he couldnt win the game after dak got hurt"

Troy tells it like it is.

Fans view 'fandom' very differently. For some, it requires pure, unadulterated, unwavering, unquestioning support of anything with a Star on it. For others of us, that's not the case.
