Garrett didn't even freeze the kicker properly

So many coaching screw ups, I almost forgot the final one. Garrett waited so long to freeze the kicker, he essentially gave him a practice kick. When do the training wheels come off this guy?

Sad that this huge game at home had to end with JG trying to ice the team's kicker.

This is some next level trolling right?
CowboyZone may be reaching an all time low with this crap.
So we don't even know how to blame everything on Garrett correctly lol. You're blaming for him doing his job this time. You should've made a post dedicated one of his other "mistakes" you feel he made.

You guys couldn't wait to blame Garrett. You waited all season and had no ammo.
Garrett makes questionable decisions and gives people plenty of reason to criticize him but this is just silly.
Next level trolling from this guy

I'm going to quote all of you stooges since you want to play follow the leader with your comments.

This is the exact moment Garrett called timeout. You can see him on the sideline. The side judge is lifting his arms to signal the timeout.

The holder already has his hands up waiting for the snap. A half a second later, the ball is snapped. He had 3-5 seconds prior to this moment to call the timeout and freeze the kicker without giving him a practice kick. If you wait too long, an attentive special teams group will go ahead and kick the ball. That's exactly what happened. He waited too long.

If this game were outdoors in the elements I think it would make sense not to let him take the practice kick but it was at AT&T where every opposing kicker ever has made 150% of their FGs and honestly wouldn't have mattered.

It happens this way ALL THE TIME. The way we overly criticize and even hate our own players and coaches is ridiculous.

I hate Garrett as much as the next guy, but he called the TO correctly, they just snapped it anyway. Then the kicker made it, which actually went well as the chance of making one that didn't matter and missing the next is pretty psychologically jarring.
That's the way I've seen it done by most coaches zordon.
Wait till just before the snap ,
ball is up and they think they made it only to have to do it again?

I know you're upset dude but come on
I would rather the kicker actually have to attempt the first kick because

a) He misses and it messes with his confidence/focus
b) He makes it and has to do it another time
that is how you do it

Sorry I respectfully disagree with you guys. Look at the screencap above. He waited till the last milliseconds to call the timeout. The holder already has his hands up for the snap. When you wait that long, you're risking the refs not acknowledging you and the kicker going forward with a practice kick. This is what they're taught to do ever since this "icing" thing became popular around the league.

I don't think you understand. You actually want them to do the "practice" kick as you call it. It was perfectly executed.

I don't think you understand how this works. The whole "icing the kicker" process works when the kicker actually attempts the kick. Usually how it goes is that the kicker makes the first kick and then he attempts the second one and he misses. As you saw, the second kick looked far worse than the 2nd one did. Garrett did it the right way. I don't know what you are talking about are even trying to do here but you're barking up the wrong tree. There's so many other trees out there but this one isn't it.

i remember a game a few years ago (I don't recall the teams, I think the Jets were one of the teams) where the head coach in garrett's position was ticked off the refs allowed the team to get a practice kick in. He thought he called the timeout with sufficient time to stop the play.

like i said, you want them to set up the kick then freeze them before he kicks it. hence the saying "ice" the kicker.

To be fair, I can see that as valid as well. The Wikipedia entry for "icing the kicker" lists both methods as viable. That doesn't mean Garrett did it wrong though.

@rocyaice please read my post above.

@Super_Kazuya here are some definitions I found around the web and kickers saying they like getting that practice kick.

@BrAinPaiNt this isn't trolling but I can see why you're in your feelings after the sonning I gave you in the other thread.

Here's a definition from sporting charts -

https://www.sportingcharts.com/dictionary/nfl/icing-the-kicker.aspx

This is a tactic used by head coaches in which a time-out is called immediately before the opposing team snaps the ball on a field goal. It is intended to psych out the opposing kicker and give him extra time to think about the kick.

hu8d

Sporting Charts explains Icing the Kicker
This tactic is intended to make the kicker more nervous than he already is before a kick. However, what often happens is that the ball is still snapped after the time-out is called, and the kicker kicks it anyway. Icing the kicker is an aggressive tactic that often backfires, as sometimes the kick is missed yet due to the time-out the kicker is given a second try and makes it.

Esquire Article-

Yet, NFL head coaches are doing precisely this, calling last-millisecond time outs in an attempt to "ice" the opposing kicker, inadvertently giving the other team a free practice shot at a field goal.

Jay Feely-

"I heard the whistle before I started, which is an advantage to the kicker. If you're going to do that, do that before he kicks. I can kick it down the middle, see what the wind does and adjust. It helps the kicker tremendously."

Adam Vinatieri-

"Sometimes, though, it may be a good thing. It gives us an opportunity to actually see the ball on the ground, kick the ball and have another shot at it."

Calling you trolling on this is being generous.

It is your attempt to find ANYTHING negative to post no matter how small or inane.

I also prefer to ice the kicker with no practice kick. Let him sit there and think about it. It's the extra long thinking that ices them
