It happens this way ALL THE TIME. The way we overly criticize and even hate our own players and coaches is ridiculous.

I hate Garrett as much as the next guy, but he called the TO correctly, they just snapped it anyway. Then the kicker made it, which actually went well as the chance of making one that didn't matter and missing the next is pretty psychologically jarring.

That's the way I've seen it done by most coaches zordon.

ball is up and they think they made it only to have to do it again?

I would rather the kicker actually have to attempt the first kick because

a) He misses and it messes with his confidence/focus
b) He makes it and has to do it another time

Sorry I respectfully disagree with you guys. Look at the screencap above. He waited till the last milliseconds to call the timeout. The holder already has his hands up for the snap. When you wait that long, you're risking the refs not acknowledging you and the kicker going forward with a practice kick. This is what they're taught to do ever since this "icing" thing became popular around the league.

I don't think you understand how this works. The whole "icing the kicker" process works when the kicker actually attempts the kick. Usually how it goes is that the kicker makes the first kick and then he attempts the second one and he misses. As you saw, the second kick looked far worse than the 2nd one did. Garrett did it the right way. I don't know what you are talking about are even trying to do here but you're barking up the wrong tree. There's so many other trees out there but this one isn't it.

I also prefer to ice the kicker with no practice kick. Let him sit there and think about it. It's the extra long thinking that ices them
