Shocked to have heard Garrett got this over Belichek, Quinn, or Del Rio (losing his QB hurt.) I agree he failed on the game plan against the Packers. Oh well, this earned him a few more years with Jerry even if they don't win a damn thing. Isn't the coach of the year supposed to elevate his team instead of his team elevating him? Never mind, just thinking to myself. o_O

He owes Kellen Moore. If he had not broken his leg, Moore would have started and on we go to a 8-8 season.

I'm already laughing in preparation for this thread.

I'm already laying money...this is as good as the kiss of death. Garrett gets canned next off season when we fail to make the playoffs. book it....

I hope Garrett-top legitimizes this award by guiding this young team to another playoff birth next year. The unpreparedness of the 1st half of the GreenBay game still stings. Anyway, congrats to him....

It's a regular season award. I think if they voted after the playoffs, it'd be a different story.

Garrett needs to start doing something in the playoffs, assuming we don't go 8 - 8 next year.

Let's say they go 12-4 next year and get the 1 seed again. Garrett shuts the team down again in the finale and they end up losing their first playoff game. Same deal. They start slow and the 2nd half rally falls just short. Would you want him fired?

Absolutely! It would show that another lesson wasn't learned. This is assuming that the team looked I'll-prepared again.

I have no complaints. 13-3 with a rookie QB is worthy.

COTY doesn't necessarily go to the best coach. It usually goes to one of the coaches of a team who's record improved from 1 year to the next.

Garrett: 4-12 to 13-3
Rivera: 7-8 to 15-1
Arians: 10-6 to 11-5 (exception due to winning in spite of QB situation)
Rivera: 7-9 to 12-4
Arians: 2-14 to 11-5 (additional consideration due to interim status as a result of Pagano's battle with leukemia)
Harbaugh: 6-10 to 13-3

The Garrett selection is warranted. I'm willing to give credit where it's due but I'm still not really a big fan of the guy.
