Is Sheldon Richardson worth a 2nd round pick?

Just some off-season talk. This was mentioned today:

"According to ESPN's Rich Cimini, teams are only willing to trade a third-round pick for Jets RE Sheldon Richardson.

Cimini fully expects the Jets to shop Richardson this offseason. He cites the team's "surplus of defensive linemen" and Richardson's immaturity as reasons for trading him. Moving Richardson would also free up $8.1 million in cap space. The Jets were hoping to get a first-rounder for Richardson leading up to the trade deadline but nobody took the bait. If the Jets are serious about moving him, they'll need to lower their asking price."

If that's the case is it worth it to toss a 2nd to the Jets for him? I don't much about him or his contract.

No. He is a one year rental and a FA in 2018. Players in that scenario have much lower trade values then expected. Max I would give up is a 4th. If I want him that bad, I just sign him in 2018.

Would be a big boost to the DL. But im not giving up a premium pick for a 1 year rental

That makes sense, appreciate it!

No, he only has 1 year on his contract. They might as well just sign a free agent.

Maybe trade Romo for him if they don't get better offers for Romo.

Unless you are a truely elite player, that a team would have no second thought franchising the price tag for a trade usually doesnt add up to the players general worth. The Jaime Collins trade ( conditional third) is a good example of this. Could be a good market for the Cowboys to get in if they an "over the edge" type player.

Well he'd be by far our best defensive lineman as soon as he walked in the building.
Him and Collins would make a very nice interior duo. Richardson is extremely quick off the ball. If Collins improves over the offseason, him and Richardson would make an excellent interior rush due. Big question is do you want Collins at 1 Tech on running downs. I dont know if you want him playing the role of a big DT. If just assume rotate him and Richardson on run downs, and play Collins at 1 Tech on pass downs

No I definitely don't want Collins at the 1 on run downs.

It makes to rotate him and Richardson and bring in Thornton on run downs. You're talking maybe 30% snaps anyways. And run Richardson at 3 and Collins and 1 on pass downs. That would make Crawford and McClain completely irrelevant. You have 2 guys in one postion that will account for 75%of snaps at both spots, you can clear up alot of the clutter on the line that forces us to go deep at the spot and shallow elsewhere

Trade Romo for him straight up.

Win for both teams
I don't think a direct trade would work.

If you can somehow get a 2 for Romo from Houston perhaps, then you can tuen around and give that 2 to the Jets for Richardson.

I would rather keep that 2 however and maybe give the Jets a 3 and a 6.

You can then use the other 2 to move up and draft Barnett from Tennessee. And you are set at d-line

Aside from his being 1 year away from FA, if he's immature enough for the Jets to want to rid itself of him, we'd best do without him. Besides, we need a DE far more desperately than we do an inside presence. Fuggetaboutit. Go after a good DE instead.

Is there a good FA DE to go after? and if he's a FA he must have warts too

Not yet but when the final cuts are made, one or two can turn up who was unexpected to.

Aside from a rookie draft pick who would require development, that might be our best bet.
