Twitter: Cowboys Jack Crawford has interest from five teams

Some of these internet GMs would have a hard time fielding a 22 man starting lineup much less an entire roster. Jerry would hire you guys to be his accountant as tight as you are with his cash

I like how some people are ok with everybody going...without thinking about replacing them even if they are backups. The old saying...they can be replaced by anybody seems to ring hollow if other teams are wanting them to replace their own.
If other teams players are inferior to these guys as backups...would we be ok taking their backups they plan on replacing with ours.
Just something to think about.
We only have so many draft picks.

Finally someone on the board with "horsesense"...

So we somehow can't afford to lose Jack Crawford now?

It's gotten to the point of "We just can't afford to let insert name here go, how will we ever replace him?"

Crawford, to me, is a last-ditch fallback if we fail to upgrade the line. I know we can't replace everyone, but he's one of the ones we need to replace to try to get more consistency in rushing the passer.

Right now, we have Lawrence, Mayowa, Irving and Tapper and Thornton, T. Crawford and Collins at tackle (although Irving could end up inside). So we need to add at least 1 DL, possibly 2. Hopefully, that means we'll get a veteran better than J. Crawford and add an early-round rookie.

This is exactly what I think when I see fans ready to run players out the door.

If you're not a no doubt about it pro bowler...people around here throw out "JAG" and want you gone. Meanwhile...they are also happy to throw away two entire drafts for a single player like Garrett. So who cares about depth building through the draft or free agency? Starters play 100% of the snaps anyway...right? RIGHT?!?
I would argue that the team's depth has really been the difference of late, while also being the cause of the majority of complaints and the primary driver of the up and down nature of the team.

Last year saw the depth at QB, OL and WR pick up without missing a beat. Having a top heavy roster, which Dallas already has, and depth precludes free agency splashes. The absence of big fish free agents conflicts with the fans need for instant gratification and sets a negative tone that informs the fanbase. Even after an 11 game winning streak a single loss topples the facade and brings all the resentment back. This is Dallas' second really good season in three years and a ton of those depth guys are about to get overpaid again. The numbers to bring back the band don't really add up so the front office takes short cuts that usually blow up in their face following success. Then the cycle shifts back.

This is a more responsible FO and fans are still upset. It's like they know the secret to long-term sustained success but want to push back against it anyways. HEY JUST SIGN THE TOP FREE AGENT ALL ALL THESE POSITIONS AND IT WON'T HURT THE CAP threads are hilarious.

The reason this current team has the flexibility to make a splash signing at their choosing is because they've been smart and are looking to home grow first and foremost and then reward our own "free agents." The ability to do that is negated if you just always go and try to buy other team's free agents.

This is a bad argument in my opiniion but ill tell you why. If Dallas refuses to get someone to get after the qb, if they play the same defense expecting different results, if they continue to ignore the problems, what does it matter? its another lost seasin if you fill the spots with practice squad players, or all draft and FA pick ups.

Sorry but Dallas has one goal to get over the hump. If they refuse to do, whats it going to hurt who we play, the results are the same.

I agree with you in theory, but this guy is not the one I'd die on the cross for.

We have enough DEs though.

Irving, Mayowa, Tapper, Lawrence is likely your 2 deep. They'll draft a guy and Crawford can also play outside in a pinch at SDE. They'll probably bring in a low priced FA again as well.

So yeah........... I don't think there's really much of a problem letting Jack Freaking Crawford walk if someone wants to pay him a little bit.

So we somehow can't afford to lose Jack Crawford now?

The point isn't that we can't afford to lose him, its that so many people are happy to see him go if he leaves.

Crawford isn't a guy you want starting but he is a quality backup at a reasonable price, which is something you have to have on championship teams in the salary cap era.

Instead of saying "don't let the door hit ya", fans should be asking if he can be resigned as the right price. If its value to sign him, do it. If not, let him go. But should say he is awful the minute it looks like he might leave.

Is it happy to see him go or largely just indifference from most people?

I see it mostly as indifference. That is someone wants to pay him more than we want to, then have at it. Crawford is a dime a dozen player that if you lose to FA, you can probably find someone in FA that will adequately fill in and take over his role.

and it will help in the comp pick formulas

Nowhere did I say we can't afford to lose him....wait let me check again to be sure... Nope I did not.

Agreed... Not this guy in particular but when in becomes the general feeling for most of the backups and rotational players it is silly. Thus guy is no world beater... However there is enough there to have multiple teams interested so he is a bit better than the average fan thinks he is to a team.
