Romo is able to be released before June 1st and still be designated as a "post june 1st cut" right?

Also it would make sense to bluff his release and see if any of the teams that wouldn't be his first choice will give up a pick or two to get Romo.

The worst part of this is what we will do with the cap space. Re-sign Carr and Church.

I wanted both replaced but every decision being made this offseason is with an eye towards staying the same.

Wouldn't be surprised if last year when Romo went down that every week following, jerry was telling romo "work your butt off to get back and we can make a run at it!".
--team kicking butt
Then when he was fully ready to go around thanksgiving "I promise, you will be starting soon and we'll make a run at it!
--team keeps winning
"I promise, you'll be starting, we need you for the playoffs to make a real run at it!"

--concession speech by Romo..all class and has Dak's back all along
--crickets

For right or wrong, Jerry then knows he lied in Romo's face for 2-3 straight months.
Guilt sets in.....:muttley:

This skit is all for entertainment, btw. Don't truly know what was said.

If Tony is released tomorrow there will more than two teams vying for his services. There may be up to 6 or more. Tonight
is the last nite to get a one on one with Jerry and Tony.
I agree. Releasing him may be the stupidest thing Jerry ever does and thats saying a lot when ur talking about Jerry

Just a thought: why would a team trade for Romo, when Romo openly doesn't want to play for them? That seems like a terrible idea, especially for the guy who is going to become the face of your franchise overnight.

Who wants to make a friendly wager? I'm betting that whoever ends up with Romo also makes out like a bandit by holding onto their other QBs until someone is desperate for a trade and ends up unloading a QB not half as good as Romo for a 4th rounder or better. This whole scenario should be a case study in every Business 101 class on why management should not become personal friends with labor. If they hadn't got so close to Romo on a personal level, they would be doing what is right for the Dallas Cowboys, not what is best for Tony Romo.

Article 13, Section 6 (b) (ii) Acceleration.
(1) For any player removed from the Team's roster, or whose Contract is assigned to another Club via waivers or trade, on or before June 1 in any League Year prior to the Final League Year, or at any time during the Final League Year, any unamortized signing bonus amounts will be included in Team Salary for such League Year, except that for each League Year preceding the Final League Year, each Club may designate up to two Player Contracts that, if terminated on or prior to June 1 and if not renegotiated after the last regular season game of the prior League Year, shall be treated (except to the extent prescribed by Section 6(d) (iv) below) as if terminated on June 2, i.e., the Salary Cap charge for each such contract will remain in the Club's Team Salary until June 2, at which time its Paragraph 5 Salary and any unearned LTBE incentives will no longer be counted and any unamortized signing bonus will be treated as set forth in Subsection (2) below. If acceleration puts a Team over the Salary Cap, the Team will have seven days to conform with the Salary Cap, but may not sign any players until there is Room to do so under the Salary Cap.

I would laugh if he turns heel and signs with the Commanders.

if Jerry doesnt release him of course there will be interest. They have no qb. you saying they wouldnt trade a 4th for someone like Romo? They would rather have no qb and save a 4th than have someone like Romo? even a conditional 7th is better than nothing. hes worth a 4th to 2nd conditional.

Think about it from the other side. These teams know that if we don't release Romo, we're stuck with the most overpaid backup in the league who still wants to be a starter somewhere else.

We don't have the leverage here that you seem to think. These teams have the luxury to wait, we don't.

Explained in a nutshell. Nothing about no market. Just that the two teams Romo wants weren't willing to trade for him.

Of course they didn't, cause our idiot GM said he was going to release him anyway.

Why would they be willing to give up anything when they knew Jerry would do something stupid

Denver will probably unload Simien and get a least a pick.

This organization is an epic fail if they release him without getting nothing in return. Unbelievable.
You are about the fourth or fifth person to post this exact thought.

There is no more "IF". It's over.

We win the prize for idiocy.
