but you don't get that extra money until june 2 after all the free agents and draft has gone by. it's for leftovers...by that time our own free agents will have already signed elsewhere. the only thing i can see this being helpful is in resigning martin maybe....
Yeah, the big ones go early. But we don't go for them anyway.
There's a ton left still after June 1...just not the very best ones.
Like when Atlanta got Dwight Freeny last year.

Plus, if we had plans to do some things in-house, that provides more room.
Hard to say. They may just take the pre June 1 and not worry about it.

Because those things aren't mutually exclusive.

But they really are. There is no evidence whatsoever that being nice to Tony somehow will benefit the Cowboys down the road. FAs suddenly aren't going to say, "Gee, man that Jerry Jones, what a great way to honor Romo. I am going to love playing there for less money!"

Which would seem to imply more than just Houston and Denver as possible landing spots. So this idea that the trade market for Romo was just two teams is likely bogus.

I think it's pretty obvious Jerry got outplayed by other teams.

What else is new?

It's not just jerry screwing the team....Romo shares the blame too as he's refusing to accept a scenario where he's traded to a less than appealing team......so jerry basically gives him what he wants.

I think it would be hilarious is we cut Romo tomorrow, the Skins trade Cousins to San Fran this weekend and Romo tells Jerry, "Sorry, but business is business" and signs in Washington.
lol
I know you're kidding but I think we all know part of an early release "do-right" would include Romo not going to an NFC east team.

if they had held him hostage until after the draft--and greatly reduced the pool of teams (if he wanted an expanded pool) then all bets would've been off....fair and square.

Nobody takes him seriously. He is a walking talking joke.

What is more insulting is that he spent the last few weeks saying "no rush" and "we could possibly keep him", conning the brainless into thinking he actually isn't completely outclassed when dealing with the other 31 clubs.

And stares at the phone for all of 5 minutes before throwing up his arms saying "well, we tried!"

Oh yeah? What's our rush? We have not one, but two starting options at quarterback. "These teams have none".

Because we're not realistically going to go into next season with Romo and his salary on our roster. Are we supposed to sit around waiting for a fairy to magically drop a draft pick out of the sky from a team who knows we're not going to keep him anyway?

Bill Bellichick would never do this. It's a business to him.
Robert Kraft has the same kind of relationship with Brady as Jones supposedly does with Romo.

Yet, I don't think they would let the GOAT QB waltz on out with a handshake followed by a slobbery kiss.

But then again, they also did not mismanage Brady's contract and make it prohibitive to have him on the roster if he wasn't starting either.

As I said when it happened.....and reiterated on yesterday.....who skips over using their BACKUP QB...to play the 3rd string QB in the NFL????????

When you do abnormal things in this league...you get abnormal results.

We were AFRAID to play our own player...for fear he would get hurt.....but yet we expect someone to give us something for the player we were AFRAID to play? He was the backup QB...when the starter comes out the game...the BACKUP QB plays......

All it takes it one great season for Jerry to drink the Kool aid and think the cowboys can win with the team as it stands. Like it or not this a draft first team now. Free agency will be a bore of random bargain jags to fill the team.

Welp at least jerrys man crush of romo comes to an end. Only if that could happen for his crush on Garett

In other news, Mickey looks like the puppet he is for the Cowboys with his article about keeping Romo that 24 hours later was clearly a ruse.

Poetic justice in a way.

Romo could always agree to restructure as part of a trade

Romo would have to agree to restructure and the terms. The front office has no mechanism to force Tony to do that in order to make a trade amenable.

Romo has a lot of motivation to not facilitate such a trade. He soon won't be a Cowboy anymore.

The general point is the overall failure.

Not getting picks was just the final insult. This was coming and people should have seen it years ago when they last opened up the Bank of Romo and borrowed against it. All while having the lunatic owner say the player has "five more years".

But according to some geniuses around here, we are not mentally challenged when dealing with the cap and contracts.
