NFL held an owners-only meeting in Arizona

NBA still tests for it, dunno about MLB but I don't think I've heard of an MLB player being suspended for pot.
That's surprising tbh. I just looked it up and they have 4 random tests throughout the season, but none in the off season. I woulda thought there would be many more suspensions in the NBA with rumors of more than 2/3rds to be users; something smells there.

I'm sure part of it is that the NBA testing may not be as rigorous. I think it's also possibly just a numbers game; 22 starters vs 5.

When an NFL bench warmer fails a test, I doubt anyone really notices.

I'm all for testing for performance enhancing drugs but time to stop testing for weed in a league that gives out pain pills like candy and who will inject players with pain meds to get them on the field

Weed should be treated as alcohol. But how do you test a player if he comes to work high? Dilated pupils? Munchies? Is there a test like a breathalyzer for weed?

"For now, though, it appears that dramatic changes aren’t coming, on any of those points."

So jerry planted a seed, which may grow, but it will take time.

Put that seed under a high pressure sodium light and it should be good to go in about three months.

It's a quote from the movie "Platoon".

If Jerry is successful, I want to see the return of 27 year old Def Ro:

Jaylon Smith - Def Ro - Sean Lee

^ baddest LB crew in the NFL, with Randy Gregory and David Irving coming off the edge. :D

They shouldn't test for weed. It's ridiculous.

That being said, Randy Gregory doesn't deserve to be in the NFL.

He showed this organization such complete and utter disrespect by being unable to pass a simple drug test.

They spend a premium draft pick, along with millions of dollars, and you care that little about holding up your side of the deal.

Randy Gregory lacks character, maturity, and self control. I wouldn't want him on my team.

Yes, the business says that.

That's why they are trying to change the rules.

Most jobs that compensate their players very well do not force their employees to take random drug tests for marijuana.
Exactly...and while I am not on the "pro-pot" agenda (I actually don't really care for it, the lingering smell especially...and the same goes for cigarettes), it definitely seems like a slippery slope to regulate it as the league does when it is essentially on a path to U.S.-wide legalization. Couple that with the billions in alcohol sales the league is behind (directly and indirectly), which is the country's leading consumed drug (I don't drink bourbon or other whiskeys merely for the taste but also because of the way it makes me feel) AS WELL AS the league's absolute criminal overprescribing of narcotics and related pain killers and what you have is an untenable and indefensible position, expressing an hipocrisy that knows no bounds.

Amen. Its time to get real and let people live.

I am not saying you are wrong...far from it. Gregory is a kid and his punishment should have fit his crime. ln the real world the public wouldn't have even heard about it. What he did was what many, many young people do everyday and was blown way out of any logical proportion.

its a federal crime to have pot and the current administration is going to be tough on it so I don t think its going to be any different any time soon on pot useage and in the state where I live its a state crime and drug usage of any kind is looked down on

is he basically saying "we all have to deal with this, so why make the players accountable for a job"?

The players will stand there during contracts and say "this is business" Okay it is, business says you cant smoke weed and you get compensated very well for it" Why have any standards at some point?

You know most business' don't ask you to smash your brains to mush either? Is it too much to ask that they are allowed to smoke a plant to make themselves feel better?
Second question-are the owners asked to take a test? They own the teams, but operate as a franchise under the league so they should be held to the same standards shouldn't they?
