My doc said the levels can go back down to normal. I just left a message, hope he returns my call soon, and am gonna ask him about this stuff.

Once it does down I can drink again right?

i think most MDs will recommend that you reduce intake of the various sins.

In general, of course, but what about people who have had an elevated liver issue? Are they more prone to risk than others who haven't that still drink heavily?

Or once it goes down, it's like a new beginning?

He originally said my liver was 4x what it should be, two weeks ago on my first lab, but I didn't ask the specifics, only if cirrhosis was at stake.

Is this what he was referring to?

if you read the paragraph in post 6414 - it talks about the likely test your doc used - though you should confirm with him.
dont be afraid to ask your doc - "what do you mean the levels going down - levels of what?"

Actually took my 11 year old son out for a couple hours last night. He landed 21" catfish that weighed about 4 pounds on his lightweight tackle.

Bet he was doing the "fish fighting dance" reeling it in!:laugh::laugh:
Channel-cat?

My dad had a fish pond,,,them hogs had heads the size of dinner plates on them,,,Mom wouldn't feed them when he wasn't there,,, she was scared of them:lmao::lmao2::lmao:

your doctor would tell you.
if the levels were elevated by 4X - i am afraid your body is telling you something.

most of these things dont get a restart - other medical thing would be like jaylon's nerve - that gets a new start.

T

he liver has remarkable regeneration skills. The fact that the levels have gone down in only a few weeks is very encouraging.
Thanks, Coach! Between your lovely drink and Mr. Chow, I was really starting to get worried.

Thanks for the lift, good sir!

Well ****

you said 4X - the bold sentence that talks about 2X of the ratio of 2 difference chemicals in your blood
the underline sentence talks about elevated level of another chemical in your blood

"Diagnosis typically relies on laboratory tests of three liver enzymes: gamma–glutamyltransferase (GGT), aspartate aminotransferase (AST), and alanine aminotransferase (ALT). Liver disease is the most likely diagnosis if the AST level is more than twice that of ALT (9), a ratio some studies have found in more than 80 percent of alcoholic liver disease patients. An elevated level of the liver enzyme GGT is another gauge of heavy alcohol use and liver injury. Of the three enzymes, GGT is the best indicator of excessive alcohol consumption, but GGT is present in many organs and is increased by other drugs as well, so high GGT levels do not necessarily mean the patient is abusing alcohol."

Once it goes down I'm guessing extreme moderaton would be the best advice.

trouty, really feel free to ask your doctor to explain to you in detail.
that is his job.
you should see my mom talking to her doctors - all the nurses are afraid of her in cedar sinai during her stay :lmao:

agreed.
@Trouty - moderation is better than total abstinence...
talk to ur doctor, ask questions, it is ok to say 'i dont understand'

you said you are in good shape.
but exercise is often important.
