it depends.
cost of living in shanghai and hong kong are high.
hotels are a pretty good deal, with '5 stars' below $150 typically per night.
as i mentioned in the retirement thread, a cruise is a nice cost-controlled way to try a few of the coast cities out before spending more time and money.
countryside can still be dirt poor.
weather is really hot and humid from May-Oct, but u r used to TX so it may not affect u.
for californians like trouty and me, planning a trip in the winter is better.
Cruises sound good. I don't like to fly anymore. Bad experience a few years back taking off in Vegas. Engine caught fire.

Oh man, I **** up spots in Rowland/Hacienda Heights!!! We probably go to the same places. Do you eat Dim Sum?

i eat dimsum, chinese, vietnamese, peruvian, sushi...
i actually do not care for thai but indian is good too, as is spanish, greek as well as good burgers.
we definitely need to meet up some time and post on the zone together with pictures and other stuff!

Daggon, Max! That is pretty frightening. I love nature, too, those damn screwballs that feed bears and other wildlife have no business being out in the great wilderness.

Glad nothing came of it, and your boys got to see their dad being a BOSS HOGG to that critter.

Next time bring a shotgun or a .45 :) And a GoPro!

So glad you had a wonderful time, brother.
Yeah man I'm never going up there without my rifle or shotgun again.
My wife's cousin has a place up near ours and the rangers told her that the bears are the most aggressive thsat they have ever seen them and it's because some of the locals are feeding them on a regular basis.

wow, u r lucky u r around.

cruising is a nice cost-controlled way to tour.
big advantages include no jet lag (less than 1 hour change per night), hotel and lodging included and you have a safe nice place to go back to every day.
here is an example of a link for september cruises from vancouver to japan (and other cruises longer than 10 days for sept 2017)

Yeah, I took my wife, daughter and my parents. They were supposed to babysit, lol, didn't happen. We turned right back and landed with a bunch of screaming fire engines. Hit the airport bar and had two double shots of JWb.

nice hotels in hong kong are expensive - like $500 per night.
but relatively reasonable else where in china including beijing and shanghai

That would be sweet, Waldo. I tried to organize a CZ get-together last postseason, with JStopper, yet it didn't happen (my fault, plus it would've only been me and J).
