you can have the complete works of 5 music artists to play in your neverending music player, but only 5. Who do you choose?

1-4 are somewhat obvious choices for me. However, number 5 is hard.......I have to choose between Willie Nelson, George Jones, Merle Haggard, Def Leppard, Beethovan, Mozart, Jimmy Buffett, Frank Sinatra, AC/DC, or the Beach Boys.

1. The Cure (my favorite music group)
2. George Strait (my favorite country singer and solo artist)
3. The Cranberries (I needed at least one female voice, and I love their music)
4. Depeche Mode (my second favorite music group)
5. The Beach Boys (a childhood favorite, I love most of their music)

Stones
Led Zepplin
Natalie Merchant
Eagles
One of Stevie Ray, Jimi Hendrix, Beatles, Clapton, Witney Houston, Elvis, Roy Orbison, Skynard

If it was 5 songs:
Dr. Mr. Fantasy - Steve Winwood and Eric Clampton at The Crossroads Guitar Festival
Hotel California (Acoustic) - Eagles
Angie - Stones
San Andreas Fault - Natalie Merchant (really anything by her)
When the Levee Breaks - Led Leppelin

Give me a great Merchant song, X

I've seen you mention her a few times. Show me something that makes her special, as I know nothing of her other than she was (early?) 90s slow jam (or so I thought).

She isn't a PJ Harvey, is she?

Ok, X, just checked her out, she isn't better than Joanna Newsom or Fiona Apple, imo. With all due respect.

She has vibrato in her voice, but is very basic in intrusmentals. Even St. Vincent is better, imo.

Norah Jones is great, too, tho she doesn't have that vibrato, I'm sure, that draws you to Merchant. She's also very commercialized, like an Alanis Morrisette, say, or even The Cranberries (and, certainly, Merchant).

Check out Joanna Newsom and Fiona Apple. If you're feeling grungy and wanna get to the nuts and bolts of female volcalists (in post-1990 contemporary), check out PJ Harvey.

Also, Macy Gray is exceptional as is Bjork.

Was there a thread about Kid Rock somewhere? I didn't want to be mean and poopoo in the thread, so I'll sound board in this one.

Lmao. Kid Rock is horrible. Like, really horrible. Music card pulled if you listen to him and even head bop to it, let alone like it, and -- just dang -- if you purchase his music.

That southern rap anthemic bulljive is grating and makes my ears bleed. He looks like a flaming you-know-what, too. Kid Rock. Wanna be Skynryd with a 2003 Sheryl Crowe I'm-changing-my-identity complex.

Nerd from high school trying to play the tough kid. Kurt Cobain would rip your head off and **** down your neck.

I'd like to pluck him up and drop him in a Deftones or Supultura moshpit just for the hell of it. I hate his music. It's as bad as Nickelback and Creed.

Yes, it's that's bad. Worse even, as at least those guys own up to their sleeziness.

I don't see any similarities.

The internet tells me that any one of Natalie's "albums" sold 2x more than ALL of PJ's career sales.

I love her voice.

Letterman once said he wanted to marry her voice.

PJ was never commercially successful. Just a critical-successful bombshell and jet-setter for female grunge.

Music isn't about sales. It's about the art. Much like football isn't about Forbes, it's about winning. With all due respect my man.

Definitely. There are literally millions of people better than Beyonce that sold less.

My point was that PJ was a bit a a gimmick type artist.

First one is awesome! Shades of Joanna Newsom! Sweet! I stand corrected. Newsom does use a harp, tho :p

I'll edit after the second one my brother, X

Edit -- she's cool! She has fun! She jams with her band, similar to my hero Dave Matthews. She does remind a bit of a Jewel or a Natalie Cole-type, but that's neither here or there. She has that natural vibrato in her voice like Stevie Nicks.

Cool, X. Wish she played an instrument, that would set her apart from a lot of female vocalists. But I'm madly in love with Natalie Maines and all she ever does is strum a 6 string. Anyone can do that.

I hope I haven't sounded like an arse. I'm an audiophile and used to be a major contributer to ILM (Ilxor) in my early 20s.

She's cool, brudda!

I didn't list him, but one guy who always lifts my spirits and brings out the joyful side is eddie rabbit. I can't explain why, but whenever I hear his music, any negativity goes away, at least while he is in my ear.
