Definitely having a heat wave right now in central NC
I was in the mountains there a little over a week ago and it was pretty much perfect.
Low 70s, low humidity.

Believe me Texas, Louisana, and Florida are all way hotter than NC on average.

But yes, there are people that like all sorts if weather....goes without saying.
I know people who think the winters there are too cold...lol. And I people who actually Like Calgary wearher...where they plug there cars into heaters in the winter to prevent the sub zero temps from killing the car...lol. All relative.
They can have the real cold weather -can't stand it myself.

I was born and raised in Washington DC and its suburbs....... growing up in the 70s and 80s in the perfect suburbia of Anne Arundel County was the best...... we were between 3 cities with all the culture of Annapolis, Baltimore and DC...... how I became a Cowboy fan is another story...... we have all 4 seasons and none are too harsh......we have boating, skiing, hiking, major sports, great schools, museums and farmland all within a small area....... it is a mini-America, you can find just about everything

For the last 20 years I have lived on the Eastern Shore of Maryland in OCean City.....it is touristy and loud in the summers but I live where you vacation.....the beach and the golf are top notch...... there isn't much industry here but if you own a bar or restaurant you can make a killing and if you are a beach bum like me you don't stand out drinking at the casino on Tuesday night or spending Thursday at the Ocean

Things have a gotten a little more crowded and heated back on the Western Shore these days.......I don't travel over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge too often but I recommnmed the Annapolis area the most if you have to live on that side of the Bay...... for me, I am never leaving the beach

Loved growing up on the Outer Banks of NC (Hatteras Village) with the great beaches, surfing, fishing, etc.
But Hatteras Island is very remote. Would not want to live there year-round at this stage.

Been down there before and after some big storms and it is sketchy

When the main road gets flooded out/sanded over it is no way out

Otherwise it is awesome......I had a friend who was the Pro at Nags Head Golf and his roommate was the Asst Pro at Currituck Club in Corolla

Born and raised in NW Vermont.

Love it for the most part. Rural and laid back atmosphere. Lake Champlain is a gem. You need to embrace winter or be ok with spending it indoors. Plenty of ways to embrace it if that's your thing.

Montreal is about an hour from my house. Boston about three hours. The atlantic coast is two and half hours through the green mountains and then the white mountains depending on where you're going.

The politics of the state has been going in the wrong direction imho which has increased the cost of living but at least the natives are finally beginning to get seriously restless.

If you can work from home and don't mind being away from anything even resembling a city you can buy a lot of house for cheap. That changes drastically the closer you get to the comforts of civilization.

Cell service and internet connectivity is behind the curve. Improving that is always a hot topic around election time but so far there has been more talk than action.

Serious opiate problem. A few years ago CBS did a segment on the county I live in calling it ground zero in the opiate addiction crisis. It's only gotten worse. State government has finally recognized this and is making an effort to try and get things under control.

All in all, for me, it's been a great place to grow up and live in. I do a fair amount of traveling around the country and I still get excited to see the Champlain valley spread out before me when I return home.

I am heading there tomorrow, to Burlington that is. We need to hit Petco and the one there is closest to us in NH.....about 70 miles away :(

Think we will explore the lake and maybe hit the aquarium there.

Nice!
My sister is a doctor in Nags Head. They like it there.
But as you know, going all the way out to the Cape is another 70-80 miles out. It can get really dicey out there when the storms come...no doubt. The island gets really skinny in places.

Great surf though..when its right...and pretty much every world record Atlantic deep water fish....especially Blue Marlin and Sailfish.
But its remote.

Born and raised in L.A. I lived everywhere in the main city and then in high school, I moved to Culver City by the Fox Hills Mall. That area was so quiet but I didnt appreciate it enough because I was so use to the city noise. So I moved back to L.A. when I graduated from college.

Looking back at it now, I think that if anyone wants to move in L.A., to try to move west of the 405 freeway around the 90 freeway. You arent far away from the city, LAX, beaches, but far enough from environmental stress.

Now I live in Covington , Ga. L.A. got old for me and I appreciate where I live now that I am older. It is about 40 min away from downtown Atl on a good day. More adult/retired folks here so cost of living isnt that high compared to the city. Not many teens hang out without an adult or a parent. You get the 4 seasons. The con is that it is only one freeway that goes thru the city. However, i will take that over living between the 110,105,405,10 freeways of L.A. anyday.

I live in the Beaumont/Port Arthur area more commonly known as the Golden Triangle. I live in a small town directly in between Beaumont and Port Arthur. It is a good area to live in.

Positives: 1) There are lots of jobs in the petrochemical industry which is where I make my living 2) Even though we are 90 miles from Houston it is still predominately a Dallas Cowboy area. 3) There is some great saltwater fishing in the area and we are fairly close to some major fresh water reservoirs with great fresh water fishing 4) Since we are just 90 miles from Houston we have access to some of the best medical facilities in the world as well as the great entertainment that comes to that area. 5) Mild winters 6) High school football. The town I live in, Nederland, has one of the greatest and oldest high school football rivalries in the state with the town next door, Port Neches. The have an annual "Bum Phillips Bowl" since Bum actual coached both teams at one time. 7) We live very close to the Louisiana border with access to casinos if that is anyone's kind of thing 8) Low crime in the small towns around Beaumont/Port Arthur. The bigger towns have a little higher crime rate but the many small towns are low.

Negatives: 1) It is REALLY HOT and HUMID in the summertime

As for other areas I might recommend, the Grand Junction Colorado area is beautiful. It is just a great little town in a valley between mountains. I have spent some time there for work performing internal ISO 9000 audits at a very small site our company has there. Just about every restaurant in the town has its own brewery. The scenery is absolutely gorgeous and the people are really great.

Hot Springs Arkansas is a great town. San Antonio has always been one of my favorite towns to visit.

Traffic is going to be the death of me. I have to drive my son to his school, 20 miles one way, every Monday morning during rush hour. It takes me an hour and a 1/2 to get home.

But it isn't as bad as the 5 FWY in @dexternjack's neck of the woods! I have to take that drive every time I go to an Angels game.
I take the 5 every time my wife and I go to Disneyland! We'll be back in October!

Cool BK, I've been to OC a dozen or so times and used to love the boardwalk; have they updated the early streets, etc? The beach in the 100th ST and up is nice though. I live in DC; NE 14th ST but I believe many would only like DC (the city itself) if they grew up here. The COLA skyrocketed the last two decades and the Summers are humid as hell. Marijuana friendly as it is legal to posses up to two ozs but ironically must still find it on the black market or grow it yourself (which is legal).

Crime is down and centered mostly to the SE/NE/PG Border neighborhoods and would consider it a safe city now tbh outside of those zones. Very transient city, rare to meet people born and raised. Unless you're into politics, social rights organizations, Education, Law. and lobbying there isn't much reason to come to DC. Everyone knows someone who works for the Federal Gov.; not making it political, just part of the culture, etc.

South Irving.
About 6 miles from Texas Stadium, and about 9 miles from JerryWorld.

I love it because it's smack dab in the middle of Dallas and Fort Worth. Not too far from anything, except Frisco which isn't even a part of the Metroplex.

I hate it because it's ghetto now. It's a lot of rent houses now, and with that ghetto people. Renters don't take care of houses like owners do.

I'd like to live somewhere that has a south Floridian climate ( I love Miami and Fort Lauderdale) but I don't want all the hurricane nonsense and would love to be close to the beach. It has to be a pro Cowboys area, with beautiful blue water, and a non extradition country. Oh and it needs to modern and civilized with malls, Starbucks, Whole Foods, uber, Apple ect. And needs to have chill laws or in the minimum, bribeable officials. Oh and super cool clubs....oh and fresh seafood

Boardwalk is still the Boardwalk..........Thrashers Fries and Dumsers' Ice Cream...... at night it can be rough but aesthetically they have cleaned up a lot of the downtown shacks......the beach itself is pristine from the Boardwalk to 145th St but uptown is still more affluent, classier......downtown is more Pennsyltucky and Dundalk but that is fun too

I went to school at Georgetown in the 80s/90s and loved the city.......it was a little rough outside of the Mall and NW.....loved the bars on M St and Wisconsin Ave.......I went back recently and saw nothing but cranes and condos....good thing that it is cleaning up but it is expensive and crowded......city life is not for me anymore

I was born and raised in Cleveland, Ohio but just moved to the Charlotte, NC area (Fort Mill, SC) six weeks ago. We couldn't do the winters in Cleveland anymore. We love the Charlotte area! We're about 20-25 minutes south in Fort Mill, South Carolina because of the schools and cheaper cost of living. It has been extremely hot these past 6 weeks but a lot of people who have been here for years said it usually doesn't get as hot as it has been. The weather in the fall and early winter is really nice supposedly.
