This could be Jones' way to wait for the NFLPA to pick it's fight.

Now he can come out and be a rogue champion by breaking away from the public statement supposedly made on the behalf of "all" owners.

I can't lie. This situation has taken away my excitement about football. I haven't watched an ounce of football this preseason, which is rare for me for anyone who knows my history here.

We're either supporting a "woman beater" come Week 7, or we're supporting a corrupt NFL that has lost all credibility when it comes to player discipline, among other things.

And along the way, we're treated to every gory detail about his alleged abuse or her alleged extortion plans to ruin his life.

Fun times.

Hopefully I get sucked back in, but this just isn't entertaining anymore.

It isn't. I hate the "stick to sports" narrative, because social issues should always be confronted and we should always be appreciative when people use platforms in an appropriate manner to improve the lives of others, as sports have always been able to bring people together -- but:

Roger Goodell has made the NFL about him and his disciplinary tour, not about football. It's not fun anymore.

If I were the NFL Commissioner, I would appropriately handle cases upon receiving all information from law enforcement. If, as in this case, the NFL "disagrees" with law enforcement, I wouldn't make it a crusade to center the public opinion and media on myself, but on the cause. Why are they suspending a player with questionable evidence? Why not hold a workshop for domestic violence victims, donate money to the alleged victim, offer to pay her trauma treatment bills if she needs counseling or therapy because of the ordeal, donate large sums of money to domestic violence clinics and prevention programs, etc. etc. etc.

I think that's my biggest problem with it - they're just performing lip service. Even if Zeke is a dirty woman abuser, suspending him for 6 games isn't doing ****. What about the real cause? The NFL is full of crap, and its showing in spades in this case.

I know.

Isn't it great?

I'm loving it.

I remember players saying that Gronk gets treated with a different standard by the NFL regarding his escapades. You can tell there is resentment that has been breeding among players, both current and former, for awhile.

The social media era has totally changed the game...

Ouch. What I've learned in this is also ESPN is the NFL mouthpiece. They have routinely suggested Elliott is 100% guilty and jumped all on the NFL statement and saying Elliott's team was victim shaming. The fact that the simple word alleged wasn't used tells you all you need to know. I'll give credit to Skip and Shannon as they have been giving both sides.

Please don't single out ESPN -- its ALL media covering the NFL.

They've capitulated to a large section of the fanbase (I call them First Take Fans...you may see several of them here). They're lazy and they don't care about the truth, they only care about the bottom line. I get that the media is a business, but I think ethically their profits should receive equal consideration as their journalistic integrity and desire to tell the truth.

If it comes out that she lied about the whole thing, how many media members from coast to coast will come out with a mea culpa? Spoiler alert: that answer is zero.

You can compare ESPN's NFL coverage against its NBA, MLB, NHL, and MLS coverage among others. It's night and day.

I can honestly say this is the first preseason since well, forever, where I was not excited to see games played.

It cast a pall over the sport and it is not even because of the player. It is the actions of the NFL that disgust me more than the actions of some individual. We already know, or at least should know, that players are not going to be like the childhood heroes we pretended were role models.

I have no interest in seeing the governing body of the sport act like it is competent or even worthy of judging morality or guilt. That is for our flawed legal system.

Agree. I've been limited to ESPN and Undisputed on talking heads discussing but I figure my NFL viewership overall will decline. I will watch Cowboys games and probably limited after that.

You sir, Mr. Pelissero...are a mount pile of feces.

You should also thank your lucky stars that it wasn't somebody like myself that you have tried to railroad. Scorched earth would look like a lush, beautiful prairie compared to what I would do to Thompson, Goodell, Harvey, the Columbus DA, yourself and everybody else that is willfully ignorant helped perpetuate this lie

There are two coins to these types of issues. India has a 'rape problem' and legis

Some people can play the race angle. I prefer the Kraft and Goodell are really tight angle... Brady was an outlier, because the public after Spygate in particular was already looking at the whole organization, including Bellichek.
