well the results of the 1st operation is inconclusive.
there was no apparent disaster with animals everywhere.
but was so tired from the trip to reno that i slept through the night.
so was not awake to hear any rat movement in the gap.
so not sure whether the rat(s) were nailed or not.

also left more food and sprayed catnip before i left.
so this would need another trip to know what happened.

for the next trip, i am considering some additional measures.

1. may be a large stick mat so rats would get stuck but cats can reach their heads over to grab the food.
2. something to block the view of birds to see the food, but still allow cats to easy access the food.

any ideas?

Little rat sized punji pits?
A flaming moat?
No,no,no! I got it wally and you're bound to be thrilled with this one,,, a talking guard Parrot that's trained to attack and fold fine linens, also! Now, you see Putty what you gotta do is get that trained Parrot really hungry ,I mean so hungry that he draws blood from your fingers when you feed him a single cracker but it's best if he always has a bowl of beer to drink from cuz well Waldo that's the humane thing to do,,, so then you start flipping his cracker into that wall ( I forgot to mention you'll probably have to cut an access opening in that bedroom wall first) where that scary rat orgy is going on in there and if you hear no more than two squawks followed the sound of rodents gnawing and bones being cracked and crunched ,,,well friend I'm pretty certain your problems soon to be solved buddy my pal cuz drunk and malnourished Parrott flesh is highly toxic to rats

I'm curious Waldo, what are you expecting or consider progress or success?

rat(s) gone, which can be confirmed when there are no noises from midnight-6am
i was successful 3 years ago using liquid poison trap, but that took a while.
