Tropical Storm / Hurricane Harvey

Anyone have an ETA on the airports opening again? Might be a bit of an issue getting back home this week. Might just have to stay in New Orleans, sure would hate to see that. Doubt they have enough Knob Creek to tide me over..
You're kidding right? We're the city that invented booze. Whatever you need "enough of"....we got that.

i recall as the hurricane approached land, its wind strength kept increasing and increasing all the way to 130mph / 140 mph.
do i remember correctly?
has this ever happened before?

Heading towards land/being that close? Had a name but I can't recall it atm.

It just was the perfect conditions for Harvey. Super slow movement, hottest waters in the Atlantic, and it just went through a Eye Wall replacement. The storms pressure was dropping at a scary rate and sadly the storm stayed in water for enough time for the winds to get close to match the pressure. No doubt in my mind it was on it's way to a Cat 5, just ran out of room, thankfully.

Those pics of the flooding is terrible. Especially with this ******* still over Texas with a shot to re-hit.

My house is 3ft under water now with a few more days to come. I can't even get into Houston to do anything about it and my wife is in Austin doing emergency medical service. What a mess :(

Remember saying this?....

This is a pretty small storm compared to most. I am not too concerned, will just be like a typical Texas thunderstorm with minor winds.

I figured you were taking this storm too lightly as soon as I saw you make this post. Janice Dean the weather machine(Fox & Friends) was warning everyone last week that the storm would stall and sit on the coastal area for several days thus causing massive flooding. I picked up my relatives that live at Lake Jackson last week to get them out of that mess. God bless you and yours, stay safe.

Sure do, I have been through enough storms to know better :(

I did not think it would build up that fast and stall. Once it went to a cat 2, I knew we were in trouble. So far, we have lost our house and a SUV and my family has lost quite a bit as well.

The rain seems to be lessening and hopefully, this things starts moving East soon.

With my Kinfolks safe in Abilene now, I'm resupplying and heading out to the coast today to help out all I can.

Great! Wish I could get down there to help. My mom is safe but surrounded by water on the NE side of Houston, my sister's house is flooded and living in a school ATM. Many of my friends are out of their homes as well.

I feel useless up here :banghead:

well at least they seem to be uninjured and that is the key.
the rest can be rebuilt though you may want to build on higher ground.
