I was gonna say the same thing.

I think they like K...but if R Smith shows more position flex..save the spot.

You aren't carrying 5 RBs. So if K Smith stays, then the other Smith is likely gone. Carrying 5 RBs and 6 WRs seems excessive.

Plus how often do we even run out of a two back set? Is it enough to justify carrying a 5th RB to make room for K Smith? I ask because I don't know.

What do you think GMs in other clubs do?

For example when Coughlin signed his last extension with Giants he negotiated more control over the roster. Previously he gave input to Reese and Reese put together the roster. After the agreement it was a big to do about him how having control over what was at that time the gameday 45 while Reese could churn the remaining 8.

Another example would be the Charger's GM who has complete roster control.

Mike Brown, John Mara, Jerry Richardson and many other owners use their GMs like chamberlains. I understand that as it allows them to control the situation while shielding them from criticism like what we see from you. I actually like how Jerry is upfront and out in the open about it.

Unlike a lot of those arrangements, Jerry runs things more like a council where the HC, Stephen, McClay, and others contribute to the decision. I don't know the exact mechanics but it is not the autocratic method we see from many other clubs.

The team has gotten better under this system since it came to the fore around 2012.

Agreed. Last year was his first season as a FB, and he was excellent. I can only imagine he's gotten even better.

Dump Moore problem solved. Go short on defense somewhere problem solved. With Dunbar we carried 5 last year.

TE 4
OL 8

25 on offense and it looks good to me.

Especially with it looking likely Zeke will play week 1.

agreed, the job description for an NFL GM varies. And the Cowboys have been doing something definitively different the past 5+ years that is working. But I have to believe you're aware, as most Cowboys fans, that Jerry has no problems stepping over boundaries and getting involved in matters a GM/Owner typically doesn't. The rules of engagement on the Dallas Cowboys are very blurry when it comes to JJ. Either that or you're Jason Garrett. lol jk :)

He is the owner he can do whatever he likes. If that was the case though I believe that Johnny Manziel or PAxton Lynch would now be a Cowboy if things were like they used to be.

It seems obvious to me that he trusts this consensus approach.
 
I give Noah a lot of credit. Watching him in the first game against the Cardinals and I just thought there was no way that he was ready to be on the 53 man roster. Rapid improvement in such a short period of time. Kudos to him.

I get that Jerry treats every coach like a puppet. But Jerry is the GM. He makes the cuts. This wouldn't be an instance to make Garrett is a puppet joke. But still the pic is funny
 
Bob Sturm has an article with his 53. He has Kellen Moore on the team with Noah Brown and Neal. He said he didn't have much trouble getting down to 53 at beginning of season.
 
I don't think Zeke serves a day of his suspension, at least this year, so to me DMac and Morris have always been overkill. I'd try and get a conditional for Morris or do a little swap for a LB prospect with a little upside.

I'd keep KSmith and RSmith who are both core special teamers before I'd keep a 3rd RB who is no factor there and rarely if ever will see the field offensively. It has always been a question of Morris or RSmith for me on the 53 and I'd keep the later. People always underestimate the value of playing ST on the final roster. That also gives you a little more cushion for going long at other positions.

Yep. Same. Reason he went so late was because he was raw, most thought he should have stayed in school.

Looks like he's a pretty fast learner so we might have gotten some great value

K Moore
Tapper
Thorton
Neochka
White
Frazier
 
There is no question. He is on the team and will slide into Butlers role next year.

I don't think he will be active on gamday this year unless switzers hammy is bothering him.
