The cutdown at RB is painful - Morris looks like a great RB this season. Yet there is no room for him. Zeke is gonna be on the final 53 along with McFadden, Rod and Keith. I can't stand the idea of 3 QBs when one of them is named Kellen Moore.

What do you think GMs in other clubs do?

For example when Coughlin signed his last extension with Giants he negotiated more control over the roster. Previously he gave input to Reese and Reese put together the roster. After the agreement it was a big to do about him how having control over what was at that time the gameday 45 while Reese could churn the remaining 8.

Another example would be the Charger's GM who has complete roster control.

Mike Brown, John Mara, Jerry Richardson and many other owners use their GMs like chamberlains. I understand that as it allows them to control the situation while shielding them from criticism like what we see from you. I actually like how Jerry is upfront and out in the open about it.

Unlike a lot of those arrangements, Jerry runs things more like a council where the HC, Stephen, McClay, and others contribute to the decision. I don't know the exact mechanics but it is not the autocratic method we see from many other clubs.

The team has gotten better under this system since it came to the fore around 2012.

You can state this a thousand times and it's not going to change their mind! People can not be happy with his results, but the fact is that is his job!

The freaking man has recently won GM of the year. SMGDH!

I can see the following being borderline cuts:

K Moore
Tapper
Thorton
Neochka
White
Frazier
Way doubtful on Thornton as he is the only vet interior depth. And Tapper simply has too much invested in him for them to give up on him.

Noah will have to fight to keep his spot all year. As injuries happen there is always fluctuation in the roster. As a raw WR who probably will not be on the field much, he will need to prove his worth and show development as the year goes on.

So 3 Qb's, A 6th receiver, a 4th Tight end and just recently a fifth running back. I personally would of went with a 2nd fullback. I'm just being sarcastic of course. The final 53 is going to be interesting.

They'll keep Moore as QB3, and Noah Brown will be WR6 imo (and Jerry Walker Blue's). They'll also roster 5 RB's with Zeke's uncertain status. The only questions will be does Hitchens or Gathers go to IR - DR, and where does that open the roster spot at?- a 9th OL, Nzeocha as 7LB, or Lewis Neal as a 9th DL.

This is Jerry relaying what the team overall is thinking. You have to be pretty naive to think he's not in the loop re: the grading and assessment of these players after each game.

That fact that Brown started the first offensive series in the last game was the tip off to anybody paying attention that the team liked him enough to keep him on the 53.

We have to keep nine because Chaz Green is not dependable.

They don't have 9 OLs who can play. They'll keep 8, with Bell and Green able to swing at OT or play inside if necessary. And Looney for the interior OL positions on game day. That lets you go three deep at each position (with Cooper at OC in an emergency). And they ramp up if anybody misses significant time.

When your #6 WR plays special teams and can be a gunner on punts and kickoffs, along with being one of your best blockers, it doesn't really cost you anything to have him on the 53. He just takes the place of a LB/DB who was only going to play special teams anyway.

With Irving, Moore, and possibly Elliott suspended, and Hitchens and maybe Gathers on IR we're not really getting down to 53.

The only dicey cuts to me looks like it's what you do at RB or TE. If Elliott plays, I'd cut Morris and keep Smith. If not, you have to let Smith go and pick him or someone like him up later in the year. Not really a big deal, though it's kind of cool for the mojo of the team to have that Ohio State connection (Elliott, Smith, Brown), plus having both brothers on the roster.

At TE, you either flip Hanna or Swim for a pick or an upgrade at LB or OT3, or your IR Gathers.

Other than that, the roster is pretty cut and dry until the DLs come back, isn't it? When the DLs are back, if we don't sustain any serious injuries during those 6 games, things get a bit tougher. if you're Neal or one of the bottom roster DBs, you best either become a ST ace or not get too comfortable.

Exactly.

Theoretically, we'd have the option of playing Demontre Moore on the coverage units when he comes back, too. Which is sort of awesome.
