This game made me appreciate Tony Romo more

The simple fact is that the Cowboys were badly mismanaged for most of Romo's career. The state of the defense at the moment suggests Dak might not be that much better off.

Romo got crucified by a disloyal fanbase for what were mostly the sins of Jerry, Wade and Garrett. If the Cowboys can't field a defense that can at least slow down what's at best league average QB play, then Dak is in for the same treatment in the years to come. I can see Dak throwing 5 TDs in 2019 and the Cowboys losing and him eating all the blame if they can't field a real defense.

No doubt peak Romo was a better player than early career Dak, but by 2016 Romo was legally dead.

No disrespect to Dak, but being down by 21, I always knew we would climb, scratch our way into a game with Romo. That was just him. It was his identity. With Dak, it's more about control, accuracy, and not letting the defense dictate things. It's just not his game. I'm just saying..History will truly show just how underappreciated Romo was in his time in Dallas.
The thing I love about Tony is everything I want in my QB. I just haven't seen that in Dak. I'm with the late great Denny Green.

Dak is already ahead of Romo at this point in their careers, considering Romo hadn't even taken a regular season snap yet. Romo developed over time - years, in fact. How about we give Dak some time, too?

I love Tony, but he's becoming larger than life in retirement. Let's take a look at his last start as a Cowboy, gallantly leading the team back to victory. Or not...

You need a few more cliches'.
How about this...I need guys who show me they are not afraid to lose to win. That's what I want. You do you and I do me. Everything ain't for everybody. I know what I like. And I haven't seen it between the white lines yet.

Or you could look at the Eagles game where he made the Eagles D look like a middle school defense that Dak couldn't move the ball against.

See I can cherry pick examples too

Didn't Dak bring us back from 21 down against GreenBay.
In the playoffs a short 3 games ago ?
Dak led several comeback wins last season. At SF and at PIT come to mind.

There was no easy call to make last season regarding the QB decision. I have no problem with them choosing to ride the hot hand.

Ding, ding, ding! That's precisely my point. This thread waxes poetically about how Tony was always going to bring the Cowboys back and little old Dak just can't do it. The reality is sometimes Romo brought the Boys back and sometimes he didn't. Dak brought 'em back against Green Bay but yesterday he didn't.

I'm one of the few people in this thread who is NOT cherry-picking examples.

It makes me appreciate that we still have a season left vs depending on Romo who would have been out for the season with injury after playing in that game yesterday

Football is a team sport. Everyone, including coaches, must execute their jobs throughout a game (e.g. four quarters) for the opportunity of success.

In some ways, yesterday's game was not any different from the last Dallas/Denver matchup featuring Romo and Manning. In the prior game, Romo did more (understatement) than his far share to secure a win but the Cowboys defense could not get enough stops practically all game long.

Yesterday, Prescott did not perform as well as he typically did during his rookie year but he did not 'cost' his team the win. His offensive line was manhandled by Broncos defensive line all day. Elliott had no where to run. Prescott threw some questionable passes but he also threw catchable passes that should have been caught.

In the end, it WAS more of the same. Some people can hype or criticize a quality quarterback to their heart's delight but it does not change the fact that guys on the field and guys on the sideline must bring their A-games for 60 minutes or risk defeat. If I were grading Dallas/Denver 2017, I would slap C-pluses on offense, defense and coaching. Only Dan Bailey and Chris Jones deserve A- or better grades for that game.

This team must return to the overall level of execution it exhibited last year. Or suffer more substandard performances in the weeks to come. It is their choice because the team is capable of better but it is the fans' own option of pointing their fingers at ALL the reasons for failure--or continuing the long-time fallacy of placing too much criticism on one player's shoulders in a team sport.

Romo should still be the starting QB for the Cowboys. I believe it would have been best for the team in the short-term, and also best for Dak in the long-term. Romo is better than Dak right now when healthy, and had he gotten injured again, then you always have Dak ready anyway. But Romo had been through his growing pains, and he was way overdue for some real success. Dak meanwhile is just at the beginning of his growing pains, and riding the bench for a couple seasons behind Romo might have been more beneficial for Dak in terms of not having to learn everything the hard way. We had the best QB situation in the entire NFL and we totally screwed it up.

Romo isn't better than Dak right now because he can't stay healthy. Hasn't played a full season since 2014. And he would have got killed yesterday.

You're overlooking whether or not Romo wanted to keep playing football after the pain he endured the last few years. It's not like the Cowboys were his only option, yet he's moved on to his next career.
