Washington receiver Terrelle Pryor said he repeatedly heard the N-word from a fan during Monday’s game against the Chiefs, and now the NFL says it is investigating.

NFL spokesman Joe Lockhart said the league is examining the matter and that fans could be banned from stadiums for using racial slurs.

“We are looking into all aspects of it and we will report back when we have concluded that review,” Lockhart said.

Do I get banned by the NFL for yelling, "Commander!" at Terrelle Pryor? Shame on those that might have been yelling the N-word but when did we start limiting speech that some find offensive? When did the 2nd Amendment only apply to pleasantries and a certain ideology and who's ideology? Slippery slope NFL, slippery slope.

Fighting words and offensive speech have had limits in public forums since the 40's. Incitement and obscene speech has been deemed limited by the courts since the late 60's/early 70's.

Anything that advocates hate or violence should never be considered free speech.

Fans who spew hate should be kicked out of the stadium. Just like fans who get drunk and get into physical fights should be kicked out of the stadium Paying for a ticket doesn't entitle them to behave in a hostile manner.

Who determines what is offensive? The N-word is obviously over the line but there are words that are not intended to offend and yet some find offense none the less... is "anchor baby" off limits? What about Trump or Clinton? Some are terribly offended when seeing those words written. There is a slippery slope and you are not addressing it.

Are you serious? There's no place in OUR country for such language, period.

That's the problem that is never addressed. What is right/wrong, hate/not hate, or offensive/not offensive is largely subjective with a wide assortment of differing opinions on mostly everything. It's kind of the point of the first amendment...which just last week the NFL was all about, but not so much now.

Assuming you meant the 1st Amendment, this is similar to the kneeling controversy. You have 1st Amendment rights, but that doesn't mean you can say anything you want any time you want to. I have no problem with the owners of an NFL facility implementing a set of rules that people have to follow if they want to attend. Such rules are not an infringement on your 1st amendment rights because no one forces you to attend. Furthermore, as employers, NFL Owners have to prevent their employees from being subjected to a racially hostile atmosphere. So not only do they have the right to kick out fans yelling that word, but they arguably have the obligation.

I think each team should be able to set their own regulations, and let's face it... those are going to be based on community standards. We, as a community, are overwhelmingly disgusted by the use of that word. Not everyone agrees but I think that fairly represents the community standard.

I am not sure what you mean. If a player was running off the field and someone yelled "Hey, you Clinton, get out of here!!" then I doubt they would be removed from the premises. People would wonder what he was smoking..... However, if a fan were to start openly yelling political platitudes in the middle of section 412, I imagine other fans would shout him down and the ensuing ruckus could lead to a warning and subsequent ejection.

I agree. However, it is hypocritical to one week be talking all about the first amendment rights of the players, and then following it up with talking about kicking customers out because of their speech. Either acknowledge that the NFL is a private business and the 1st amendment doesn't apply and don't use it as a defense of your players actions on the job, or don't go after fans for their speech. Consistency is a problem for the NFL (and society).

I'm just to a fan of regulating temperament at a football game. We act different in a stadium than we do at a movie theater. And I don't find it ever appropriate to be yelling the N-word yet rappers seem to own it.

Oh absolutely there is a great deal of hypocrisy on the matter. Just like how the media bent over backwards to scream "1st Amendment!" for Colin Kaepernick when he took a knee, but those exact same media members are virtue signaling their outrage over Cam Newton.

I knew you and JoeMommaKing were ok with the N word. Thanks for both of you to publicly announce it.

What language? Are you listening? I'm did not advocate the use of the N-word. I'm asking, if we are going to limit speech then who gets to determine where that limit starts and stops? Yet you seem to find offense for me even asking the question.

IF you're not advocating, what's the point of a debate?

So my 1st Amendment rights don't carry over into the private domain of the stadium but the player's 1st Amendment rights do... gotcha;)

1st amendment rights protect you from the government, not from a private business, ie, the NFL. So when the NFL bans a fan for language they deem inappropriate, they are within their rights to do so. The NFL, is also within their rights to suspend/fire players who take a knee, however they won't, because that would be just as big, if not a bigger **** storm. Nascar came out and said they would, and as much as I disagree with the stance, it is 100%, not a first amendment issue.
