What’s wrong with Cowboys defense?

Lee is not playing that is the problem. The guy is simply a badass and when hes in there he makes up for our poor coaching. We need to surround him with a better cast and put more pressure and safety play.

While I would like to see Dallas take advantage of Butler's sped at times, I fail to see any huge upside to playing him over TWill. He's nowhere near the blocker, and his hands are no more dependable.

Get him more snaps in certain situations, but (in my opinion) in the long run, playing him over Williams will have a negative effect.

They're both limited and inconsistent. Yes, Williams is a better blocker. Butler gets open more often. Both are drop-prone.

Lack of killer turnovers helped hide the defense last year. The last two games there were two turnovers that really, really swung momentum to the other team. Not saying that the defense is good, but I am looking at the reality of this being our defense for the rest of the year. They have to protect the football and keep the defense off the field if they want to win the games.

The story of the Cowboys the last few years.

A double-whammy of the "other Miss" of Thornton. Much like losing both Carr and Claiborne for Carroll. We gave Thornton the money we should have given to McClain. A few dollars more and we actually have a player out there.

I hate hindsight Stash. McClain is the better player, but given his oft injured career, I definitely understood the Cowboy's letting him walk.

If Jeff Heath is the starting safety coming out of the bye. I will officially lose what small remaining confidence I have left in our coaching staff.

I have never been one to historically blame the coaches for everything, but there is NO reason that Heath should be a starter on our defense. None, zilch, nada.

What can I say? I bought the hype. I liked Heath's finish in 2016, and the reports on Paea were really good. I got fooled.

Its sad to say, but it appears this season may already be in the toilet. Philly looks great, Zeke about to get suspended. At 5-1 I see them winning the division. That means we would have to make a wild card spot. Not likely at 2-3 and the strength of schedule we have left. Playing Philly twice doenst help either.

I agree with you.

Lets revisit that question we had previous knowing what we know after 5 weeks.

Would you rather Zeke take the 6 game hit this year or next year if its coming no matter what?

Easy answer to me. Take the hit now, the team is horrid with or without him. Get it over with and reload for next year.

If one assumes your position of "no matter what"? Sure. This team isn't winning anything this year either way. But I don't assume that 6 game hit to be a certainty.

I'm not sure what the primary issue is with the defense but I am fairly confident it's the scheme, or lackthereof.

I don't know what it will take to fix it but I do not think it's the personnel that is 100% or even 75% at fault for the product on the field.

I may be old school but I always believed that you tailor your scheme to what your personnel is best at while minimizing the weaknesses.

I feel we do the opposite and do not put our players in a position to succeed.

It's all scheme. And the fact we don't have a in the box strong safety that is worth a damn. Jeff Heath is better suited to be a over the top free safety. Throw in the fact Charlton has contributed nothing...Add in Marinellie refuses to get a true double team eating NT...there lies your problems. It's all connected.

I'd love to hear you make the case for it.

And to top it off I think Wentz looks incredible. Great young QB. At this point would you take Wentz or Dak if you had the choice? And lets figure in that Wentz has virtually no run game to speak of.

No pass rush, no pass defense.

Few play makers.

Lots of rookies.

Give Marinelli the players, this goes away.

I think it's a toss up between the two. They're both playing very well. Dak is far from the reason why this team is losing. In fact, without him, we wouldn't have even been in these games.

The key differences I see between the two teams is in coaching and defense. Schwartz and the Eagles are much better defensively than the Cowboys right now.
