What’s wrong with Cowboys defense?

I'm not discounting either blunder, both were huge.

Only in terms of momentum. They were both unfortunate plays but they were not back-breakers.

At the end of the day, to blame a ST miscue or poor effort to fight for a football on two losses where your defense folded like a cheap suit simply demonstrates a complete lack of rational perspective.

All that does is point out exactly what is wrong with the defense.

It is too dependent on Lee making up for the shortcomings given the current state of the personnel.

Lee is an outstanding player, but the defense should not fall apart if he is out a couple of games.

He missed all of 2014 and things were not like this with leads being blown left and right. Smith and Heath are a vulnerable pair in the middle of the field and there is no capable WILL linebacker in a scheme that has to have a decent one.

In 2014 we had a hungry Rolondo that changed the whole defense around with his ferociousness. Our LB's now, outside of Lee, are awful. Lee is the new Romo I guess....one man gang.

Of course, you can turn that right around on the defense and note that we had zero takeaways in those games.

You absolutely can and absolutely should. The defense not doing it's job is to blame, not a muffed punt or poor effort on an underthrown football.

Sure, but if we're so completely reliant on one injury-plagued player, what kind of shape are we truly in?

Yeah, its a headscratcher for sure. Take an All Pro defender of any team in the NFL and they won't lose games by 4 points and 5 points respectively. Take Von Miller off the Bronchos and they win by 20 every time.

I'm seeing the same mentality in simply blaming the defense for that last drive while trying to absolve poor offensive playcalling for its role in the eventual loss. It's ALL connected. Nobody gets off the hook.

Do they absolutely collapse like this defense? Demarcus Ware retired from the Broncos and they still managed to destroy this team.

And you'd also have a point if Von Miller had the injury history that Lee has a sense well.

If your whole defense is reliant on a guy who's frequently hurt, you have problems.

LB and SS.

We fix those two units we have a D.

I like our CBs (healthy OScan, Awuzie, Lewis, [Brown’s apparent regression is troubling, tho]) and our DL is doing well this season (with some hitches on the interior, but MCollins isn’t as bad as some of these threads paint out).

Scheme, lack of blitzing, is also maddening.

I have faith that Woods is going to be a very good ball player. Dude can flat out hit, and already seems to have a higher field IQ than Heath. Still, he’s a rook and has had limited snaps, so the SS is still a work in progress.

We have to fix our LB woes. It’s killing us. GB just gashed us with some scrub RB, opening up the field for A “captain play-action” Rod

Agreed that if we addressed those 2 needs it would have the most impact. Shortly followed by a true 1tech.

Yeah man, we need a fatty.

The loss of TMcClain is killing us.

A double-whammy of the "other Miss" of Thornton. Much like losing both Carr and Claiborne for Carroll. We gave Thornton the money we should have given to McClain. A few dollars more and we actually have a player out there.

2. The number of franchise quarterbacks in the last decade waisted on a trash defense.
So damn sad and true, RL

Let’s pray we don’t destroy Dak’s career. It’s only year two. I hope I’m not being naive in hoping our pathetic GM learned from ruining Romo’s legacy, as well as our hurting our franchise’s (legacy), during his (Romo’s) tenure.

I'm not taking Lee "for granted" whatsoever.

It's not "disrespect" at all. It's fact.

Sorry if the truth hurts.
I don’t like that he called you “boy.”No class, Stash.

I reserve that word for posters who are immature or inane. You’re nothing of the sort.

At least you did him a favor and showed class in your response, my buddy

There were a few of us who didn’t like it when he left.

Others said whatever, he’s a jag and the sort. A lot of us also knew that was a huge damned loss. I said it at the time that he left, there were stretches last season where he was our best DL
