The problem with Mo, wasn't the quality of his play in '16... Even though the quality of his play in preceding seasons was sub-par to awful.

Mo spent more time in the trainer's room than he did the practice field.

Couldn't count on him.

Even at his very best, he was a human pass interference call. He was constantly grabbing. The only chance he had was to go to Seattle, they are the only team that gets away with corners holding and mugging guys on every down.

The failed big name FA would be a ugly list
The key to building a team is the draft
Winning at free agency rarely pays off

Want me to name the super bowl teams in the last ten years that were there because of their key off season FA signings.

They weren't signing any big name free agents like Campbell...

They're out of that business.

Yep they are on ththe business of NO championships in a quarter of a century. The au they do business fails every year

I completely agree. I'd rather invest in a player considering one of the best available, then bring in multiple roster fillers. Imagine if we had just invested in Calais Campbell, or spent on our own to retain Barry Church or Ron Leary, instead of just wasting money on these fill-ins.
It only works if they pick the correct player. They can miss on about a dozen Paea types to 1 big time free agent because of all the guaranteed money involved over multiple years.

On the other hand, on a per year basis Carroll + Paea would almost pay for Leary's 2017 salary.

We've signed a significant number of difference makers. They just happen to be our own free agents.

Why people discount signing our own players is beyond me...

What has that strategy done for us? How many championships do we have about 25 years?

I was 3 years old when they acquired Haley forgive me. I’m still waiting on your list?

Hamlin? Poor signing.

Carr? Bad.

Rivera? Awful.

Wiley? Pitiful.

And one of the worse all-time for ANY team Mike Vandergadt.

Feel free to take a seat at the kids table.

And, very importantly, these decisions need to be evaluated in parallel to letting FA's leave.
Imagine having two of the following guys instead of the scrubs we have released/retired: McClain, Claiborne, Carr, Church

Mclain and Claiborne are having very good seasons. Jets love Claiborne, he is the leader of their young secondary.

And Carr and Church are having pretty good seasons. Church would have helped the run defense immensely. Heath could have continued to play pass.

Haven't run the math, but could we have signed two of them instead of these guys who aren't here now?

No way this should be glossed over.

Peyton Manning and Dwight Freeney.
That's about it. Free agency is about matching up so many factors. Take a risk and you could end up with Marc Colombo. Or Nolan Carroll. Spend some money and you can get LaRoi Glover. Or Marco Rivera.
Dallas's strategy has been to go into the draft without glaring holes at positions. This leads to mid level or hole plugged types like Carroll, Durant, Cooper, Morris, Mayowa, and Brodney Pool. Some have been productive. Most have been dung.

McClain started off well last season and tailed off.

Let's see where all these guys are at after completing the entire schedule.

Well they are all better than anyone we signed.

Also spent a lot more on those guys.

Let's see how they play for the full season...

Let's see how McClain, Church & Carr do in seasons 2 or 3 or 4 of their contracts.
