Dak numbers without Zeke

I don't know if Dak is going to be elite at some point but I'm not passing up Baker Mayfeild if he's on the board/
Agreed, problem is that Mayfield may be the 3rd QB off the board which will be very high. Browns, Giants will take qb's 1 and 2. You would think that Cowboys staff are seeing the same things we are and even though they love much of what Dak brings to the table they have to be wondering just as we are if he is the long term solution. He's had a rough season, but can still redeem himself.

I could see a team like Miami also take a QB in the first.
So, not sure who could be worth taking in the first after QB needy teams pick before us.

He's a 2nd year QB who took the league by surprise and have coaches adjusting to him. He had one of the most efficient rookie campaigns of all time.

He's actually gotten hit a little more this year, and our receivers aren't really doing him any favors.

He'll be more than fine. He's going to win a lot of games, and if we can get this defense to start out playing the good offenses I wouldn't be surprised if he takes home a couple Super Bowls

Tom Bradys second full year in the league he posted:

3764 yards, 28 TDS, 14 INTs with a QB rating of 85.7 and one rushing TD along with 110 yards.

Dak Prescott is at:

2964 yards, 21 TDs, 11 INTs for a QB rating of 89.6
He has 6 rushing TDs along with 320 yards on the ground.

With 2 more games to be played.

Was Tom Brady "Tom Brady" year two?

You do know some players continue to progress over their careers, right?
Sort of like that undrafted QB out of Eastern Illinois?
It's too early to call on Dak. He could regress or progress.

Now, I was not one of those posters who compared him to Brady, and frankly I don't see the comparison.

Not like Romo set a high bar for winning anything here. But hey, now's the time to throw excuses out about the defense, run game or receivers, or coaches!

Now add those same excuses to Dak.
But Romo could at least always throw the ball down the field even with all his warts. Romo never had fear of airing it out, today a long pass down the field is quite the fluke play. Dak was way way better last year...I think everyone can admit that at least.

Bottom line, after nearly two full seasons under his belt, Dak's passing and reading of defenses is not where it needs to be. It's entirely possible he will develop into that caliber of player but it's also entirely possible that he won't.

Yes, but how far along/how many years was Romo in the NFL when he was that gunslinger that could nail a Glenn or TO perfectly down the sidelines?

And yea, Dak played with more confidence last year IMO. This last stretch he has shown that he isn't quite there yet as a passer as you would like. Up to him and the coaches to work on that this offseason as he enters his third year.

Over the past two games, Dak has had 4 long passes that hit his receiver in the hands, dropped.

Dak isn’t a great deep ball thrower, but our receivers suck......SUCK at going deep. They have no speed. Especially with butler out.

The lack of explosive plays is a mix of the QB and receivers.

They need more speed on the outside.

Well, neither one of those Int's last night were his fault. Dez quit on his route and his arm got hit on the other (O line pooch). Thought he played well last night overall.

Romo couldn't finish out preseason. One sack put him out. Even if he only gotten sacked half as much, he still would be out.

This isn't how it works.

Preseason games still have tackling. Players can be injured on any given play. There is no counter of how many hits are left until injury.

Yeah, but this is a team that's not known for cold, hard assessments in the self scouting department.

you look at how many hits romo took and did not get injured; all this BS about how fragile he was is just that from the Romo haters

last year the line was better, zeke was amazing and we were always playing with the lead.

I'm not going to say Dak is a better passer than Romo because he's not right now. But can our receivers at least catch the damn ball? I believe I saw Dez, Williams, and Beasley all drop a pass last night. And we have Derek Carr. Who had a great season last year is playing average this year. Well, he's also having receiver issues; Cooper hasn't been Cooper and Crabtree can't really catch either.

Not true at all. I'm a die hard Romo guy who can also admit his body was finished. It had decided it was simply not going to be able to survive even a minor flurry of hits anymore.

While all the things you said are true, he’s also had time to become further familiarized and comfortable in the offense and presumably evolve as a passer but hasn’t. He’s missing some throws really badly. That’s why I think a lot of this Dez criticism is just misinformed. Dak, as the numbers have shown had overall played poorly these past 6-7 weeks.

I’m really getting concerned with him moving forward. I’ll withhold judgement until the end of next season, but he’s got to make the next step as a QB.

OH BS. Look at the last ten games or so he played and how many hits he took - it was the weird one he got after sliding that injured him last. He took normal hits just fine. The collarbone was the result of him being body slammed. I wish people were not so easily swayed by such crap

It wasn't good by any means. But, a lot of it had to do with the O-Line and Tyron's absence.

Tonight he was poor overall, but did show some really good glimpses. He just started to hear the footsteps and that threw him off. But he is doing some good things that he wasn't doing before. And boy do I hate some of the play calls/routes they have these guys run at times. If I never saw another all curls or short double outs from this team, it wouldn't be soon enough.

YR
Even with the Atlanta game, on average, Dak played behind a line 95 percent of NFL qbs would dream of.

Dak was bad even in clean pockets. The excuse making is amazing for this kid.
