They may have done that if Dez had handled things differently to end the season. But since he laid all his cards out on the table and threw some people under the bus in the process they probably felt like they might as well throw a few cards down themselves, if for no other reason, so Dez understands that the days of the team blindly backing him and relying on faith that he would one day return to form are over. He needs to fully understand that his contract to this point has been HORRIFIC for the Cowboy organization with a capital H and that if there is any chance at all of him coming back next year it begins and ends with a pay cut.

No matter how you handle it with Dez, I don't see poking the bee hive until you've got a replacement on the roster. Either in FA or through the draft. Doing it now tells me they're more likely to move on completely than I had thought they were. Or that they just don't care if he gets pissed off. Or I guess maybe he had his agent force the issue already so it's nothing new to him. Either way, I thought they'd play it closer to the vest.

Where are all the Dez Dum Dum's that swear his "passion" isn't a distraction? Some of you are beyond Homer's at this point.

WR with Dak and Garrett calling plays is just not worth 16 million dollars.

I don't care if we had Julio Jones or Antonio Brown. We would not get our moneys worth with Garrett's pass scheme and Dak not comfortable throwing to Receivers out wide.

Thanks for putting my thoughts into words. I don't think that Dez is as bad as he looked last year but he gets most of the blame. I think coaching and qb play played a major factor so if everything is going to be the same next year then dezs salary won't be justified.

He's right about Romo and Prescott playing the game in different ways.

Romo played it the talented way.

You mean after sitting on the bench for 3 and a half years and nearly getting cut in favor of Quincy?

Dak has been one of the most successful qbs in his first two years of recent history.

And Garrett isn't helping.

Good to see that Jones sees what I see. He and Dak do not work well together, the sideline ranting does not help, and he is payed a lot of money.

Sounds like they may give it one more year in the hopes that it may improve but the writing is on the wall nonetheless.

I would have released him immediately after the Seahawks game. Just gone. Done. No need to clean out your locker or get your stuff. We'll box it up and pile it out on the sidewalk.

You can pick it up or the trash boys will take care of it.

But that's just me.

I said earlier, Witten should lead the way when it comes to paycuts. Put the pressure on Dez. But I promise you, you'll never hear a peep about a Witten paycut from Stephen Jones. Hell you barely hear it on CZ....WHY?
He gave them the "Stealth" pay-cut opportunity with his zero guaranteed contract that begs to be restructured year after year, thus guaranteeing him money, doing that.
Witten is messing this team up in more ways than one and I know that's going to be very unpopular to say.

I honestly believe this FO want Dez to finish his career as Cowboy but only if he's able to play at a high level. I haven't listened to video but remember after the season, Stephen blaming some of Dez problems on change in QB. That tells me they are probably going Dez and Dak one more year to find their chemistry. IF they do and Dez again becomes the elite player we expect, wouldn't surprise me if they extended him a few more years.

It's funny that's Jones' first point falls on deaf ears.

Romo and Dez had a connection coupled with the fact that Romo was an upper echelon passer, which Dak simply isn't at this point. Yet, the Dez haterz expect him to produce numbers like he's still playing with Romo.

Surprisingly candid when he didn't have to be...Sounds like they're evaluating whether they juice is worth the squeeze, notably stopping short of saying Dez's position is safe. Would love to see the entire interview.
The juice is not worth the squeeze. Draft a #1 stud WR in the 1st and keep it moving.

If the Patriots, or Eagles had our receivers you would see how often they get open. Bryant is a good receiver that would excel on either of those teams.
It's not always the receivers fault, but more often than not they tend to be a scapegoat for quarterbacks that don't throw receivers open, or hit the routes on time forcing everything to blow up. It's all about timing, reading a defense, and seeing the field.

He's take a pay cut by at least a half to play for Patriots.

When the entire receiving group has a down year you have to look at th e common factors...

I will LMAO if they let Dez go and he goes to another team with a QB accurate beyond 10yds down field and a coach with even just a little bit of creativity because he will return to form.
Not unless he puts glue on his gloves.

I like Dez. I think he is a good WR with amazing talent to high point a ball. I think he is a victim of circumstances more than anything here. Romo was a GREAT QB and him and Dez did a lot of damage, but Tony didn't like the over the middle and quick throws a lot. I think this why Dallas never really did many crossing routes in the intermediate range. Now with Dak, you have a QB that is just not that good. His throws are erratic. And over the middle is the last place you want an inconsistent QB throwing the ball. Maybe Dak will improve in this regard, I hope so because it seems we are hitched to him for the foreseeable future. But with a QB like Dak, and not trusting him to place the ball in safe areas in the middle of the field, I don't expect to see Dez with many YAC opportunities.

Go back and look at Romo before Garrett. Plenty of passes in the middle.
