You ignore the argument then go off on your wordy tangents......"wishcasting...ad hominen ...blah blah blah"

I destroyed you with real links 50 posts ago and you ignore the facts and come back with some weak 500m deal out of 14 billion a year like it means something ........ it was 300m a year last year....whoopee

Verizon wasted 4.4b buying Yahoo and now wasted 2.5b on the NFL deal......yeah football is saved

You know Goodell wants to double the 14b in revenues by 2027...... good luck with that with 20% drops in TV ratings

That also does not match up to reality. As I said, my first post had a dozen multisyllables in it. You argued it.

You did resort to ad hominems and you are wishcasting for the future. You were wrong for this year already nonetheless.

Destroyed it with what? Your gratuitous characterizations? That seems to be all you have. Detroy, terrible, etc

You claim they wasted the money but you have no basis for it. NFL revenues are up. The TV deals are good through the next 4 years.

In fact the NFL just reached $14b in revenues this year. Last year it was $13.3b. According to you no one watches or goes to games anymore. 20%! 20%! 20%! You've been spamming the same narrative since the season began. All you do to inconvenient facts is to call them terrible or similar throwaway words.

This at a time when they are negotiating a contract. How stunning I tell you!

Meanwhile, the NFL is monetizing the web and mobile media market for billions. I suspect a deal with google, yahoo, or a similar company with a web media platform will sign for more than what Verizon did. TV is signed through 2022 or something outside of Thursday games.

Have fun wishcasting what will go on in 4 years though.

What am I wishcasting? Ever heard of projection?

I have. You are wishing that the NFL revenues are going to decrease in future years. In contrast, I am pointing out to revenue increasing this year. That is the antithesis of wishcasting as it is empirical evidence.

I do like how you are desperate to turn it around on me. That tells me that you see exactly what my point is.

Wishcasting is not a personal statement. I did not call you a wishcaster. Nice false equivalence though.

You said you hadn't seen anything about revenue dropping and I showed you how the networks were losing money.

You just said you didn't call me a wishcaster but followed up by saying I'm wishing the NFL loses money. The only desperation I'm seeing here is your attempt to save face.

Commercials on NBC, CBS, FOX and ESPN for regular-season games in 2017 brought in a total of $2.42 billion in 2017. That’s a lot of money, but it’s a 1.2 percent decline from the 2016 regular season, according to Standard Media Index.

“For the first time since we have been tracking the market we saw a slight drop of in-game dollars,” said SMI Chief Executive James Fennessy in a statement to the Wall Street Journal. “Despite a fairly significant fall in ratings, CPM’s were strong and demand continued to be high.”

The problem facing the league’s broadcast partners is that they increasingly have to give away “make good” commercials when NFL games fail to reach projected viewership totals. Also hurting the NFL was that the two industries that advertise the most on NFL games — automobiles and consumer electronics — both cut back on ad spending.

:laugh:1.2%!

And considering you were spamming 20% decrease in viewership to anyone who would listen you just undercut that point hardcore.

Couple of things. The cap still went up.

and what does this line mean to you "Despite a fairly significant fall in ratings, CPM’s were strong and demand continued to be high."?

The networks are not the league. There is a definite dichotomy here. What did the cap do this year?

Jags, Titans, and Vikings in the divisional round without Dallas, Green Bay, and the Seahawks. Jags and Vikings in the conference title games instead of Pittsburgh and Green Bay.

I'm stunned to know ratings are down vs last year. :muttley:

Well...all I gotta say is, it’s a good thing for the league and the TV folks that Goodell and his henchmen conspired to keep the biggest perennial cash-cow in the history of the NFL out of the 2016 postseason.

True. But if the trend continues it will be a factor in future negotiations.

Again, the online and mobile market is now being monetized by the NFL and the TV contracts are locked in for 4 more years. The Verizon deal is just a start. The online deal is still on the horizon.
