If he is not gone this year then the best case would be for him to have a monster early half of the season and let someone sucker take him off our hands for a pick. Al Davis gone and Jerruh can't trade Dez to himself but Cleveland and the Jets are still out there so there is that.

Even if he did have a monster year the money needs to be put into reliable assets like Z Martin.

Let him play two more years on the rookie deal. They can always use the tag for leverage to sign him long term if he plays well and it comes to that.

It's almost a given that he plays the entire rookie contract. It's basically why they wanted to go with Dak over Romo. There was a ton of talk on here about the fact that the team was winning with a 400k per year QB, and what kind of team could be built around him with the extra cap space. So it's crucial to maximize that time where he's costing virtually nothing for a starting QB. Put off paying him for every second, and if need be tag him for a year. That will give him more than enough time to settle into his role, and for the coaches to fully evaluate his worth against the cap. If he's great and you have to pay him a fortune to keep him you do so, but only when you have to. He'll be ok with his small contract and his endorsements, and if he's good enough he'll get paid ridiculous money at some point. QBs have relatively long careers, he could be looking at a decade or more of being paid astronomical amounts. But in the meantime it's crucial that the team get the most for the least at the position.

If he plays this upcoming season like the one he just finished he will only find a job as a starter with us, anyone else, I think he would be a backup. Who at this point would he beat out on another team?

Backups have contracts. The poster implied he would be out of the league, i.e. not get another contract.

IMO, that's laughable.

He is 22-10

He is assured of a big second contract in DAL
NFL execs are not like the knuckle draggers on this forum who think that win/loss is an actual stat.

Krappernick was "17-6" when he got his contract extension, and he was only able to sign a contract that ended up being extremely team friendly and netted him peanuts. If Dak doesn't develop as a passer, he is far more likely to be in the XFL kickoff game.

Reading through these posts, it appears that the entire team gets a pass for having a down year except for Dak.

This board is so down on Dak, it's not warranted at all. He had some bad games this past season and some good ones, and he played great in season one in season one. But it seems about 70% of this board wants him shipped out for a toothbrush and a reese's peanut bar.

Garoppolo just signed the largest contract in the history of the NFL. How exactly does that happen? I get that he has potential but damn.

What sort of contract will Dak sign if he has a pretty good year this year, say comparable to his rookie year?

Correct me if i am wrong but Dak signed a 4 year deal as a 4th round pick, right? He would be a restricted free agent in year 5?
No, he would be un-restricted after year 4.

That is reality but his agent won't hear that answer

I thought the best chance to get a good deal was to sign him after this year to an extension

It gets him his big money a year early so he may give one team friendly deal

A 4/60m extension that is really a 3 year deal with 100% guaranteed would be a possible solution
I don't think they can sign a new contract until after year 3.

That would be Year 3
After this year when said in Feb 2018 could be a reference to either the previous season or the upcoming season. Most often people say after next year when referring to something after the upcoming season.

The way the NFL is losing their audience the contracts players receive will be a lot less in the future. The cap for all teams will probably stay stagnant or go down. These high contracts being handed out by teams might come back to bite them in the arse.

lol... you may as well just go all the way to strike 3. It's easier to ridicule people when I don't have to give them the courtesy of answering their replies.
I decide when to ignore you

the games are still hitting 20 mil viewers or more in some games, the markets that matter. They may be down from previous years but NFL viewing standards are far superior than anything else on TV
