Lol
I like some Eminem and other newer stuff, just not as much as classic rock. Sorry, but the 70's was the best decade for music.

Well we all have our opinion and that’s fine. Impossible to say which is the best album of all time.

I could only do it by naming them broken up by decade at best.

The 70’s have incredible albums. I personally can’t say it’s better than the 60’s or 83-93 ish.

Younguns? I’m 41.

I have a large record collection and love all the classic records. The thing is great records haven’t ceased to exist. There are a ton of great artists and albums.
lol, uh yea, 41 is young to me.....enjoy it while you can because the years pass by quicker each year........Yea, I agree theebs about the great records are ageless.....I saw a special a few weeks back with Robert Plant and a band he put together at age 70 I think and he's still rockin it, even playing a couple of old Zepplin tunes.

Saw a concert with John Fogerty and his new band sounding like the old CCR band.

Geez. You classic rock only people need to buy some new music.
Music is art and therefore in the ear of the beholder and I know quite of few that think music died when the Beatles broke up. I have tried to turn them onto some newer tunes and they'll listen and say that's nice but I'll stick with my favorites. They are also not dialed into music as I have always been and it is not as important to their lives.

Well the Beatles are amazing. There have been some amazing records since then...lol.

Seriously though if you at a Beatles nut buy the ‘14 mono vinyl boxset. It’s amazing. Sound identical to the originals and they did a great job with the artwork.

Tons of great bands and great records/singles currently. The past few years have had some great releases.
Yes, I agree completely as I am in the Alt and Electronica fold but something happened to rock that upset the apple cart for a lot of people and they left it for other music, Grunge. I can tolerate it better now but when that came on, I was left out, it didn't speak to me so I went in search of something different or stayed with my proven's for me from the 70's and 80's.

Music is like restaurants. Some people will try all the new ones while others stick to their favorites because they might not like the new one and their favorite can be trusted. Same with cooking, some are adventurous and give a ribeye to some and they'll cook it the same way every time.

The first Beatles DC's were awful, they were pressed by Parlaphone and the stereo separation was so marked that you had to sit in the exact sweet spot to here it properly. If you had guests, each had to take turns.

I haven't listened to the Beatles, except for that PBS special on Sgt. Pepper and that was not actually them as I don't think they could license the tracks, in many years but I still appreciate what they did and the impact they had on music.

The Beatles parlaphone original pressings were mono. The stereo fold downs cam after.

Their release on cd in 87 were poor. The remastered stereo set is nice and the mono set is even better. I have the vinyl mono box and it’s fantastic. They sound identical to the original pressings I have.

They had impact on more than music. They played a major part of giving a voice to young people, they impacted fashion, interest in other cultures, mixing different types of art, even movies. Quincy Jones can kiss my butt, lol. Remove Quincy from the world of music and it would be a minor hiccup, remove the Beatles and everything would change.

all he really said was ringo couldn't play and that wasnt even on a beatles record it was for his own solo record. The headline writers turned that into the beatles stink for attention.

no one could ever seriously say the beatles couldn't play or were bad etc.

i did like in that interview where he said Tevin Campbell was underrated. He was. I love his record from 92 and the singles he put out. Great stuff.

Guess I needed to read the whole thread?
Was just reading the OP

Said any music type..no mention that it had to be hard rock
No mention of an island....but I get it
No mention of overall bands, just a best album specifically (so if a band had one good album that you like, its ok)

I guess the thread "evolved"
You know the animals couldn't wait to defy Coach's rules. One album on a deserted island? Those things are thin and the exact same size, so why not a few more? I'll try to name just one, but don't check my bags because more will be packed.

I pick The White Album by The Beatles (It's one album with two disks!)
I will smuggle Abbey Road by The Beatles, Mr Natural by The BeeGees, something by Meatloaf, 21 by Adele, The Best of Yaz, Al Green's Greatest Hits, Full Moon Fever by Tom Petty, Rumors by Fleetwood Mac, Marc Cohn and Burning The Daze by Marc Cohn to name a few. I plan to enjoy myself on that island!

I'm not trying to hi-jack the thread, but, I am only 38 and I can already see that the time is starting to move faster and faster. It's ridiculous.

Back to topic, wow, what a difficult question. Not only am I a massive fan of music, but my taste at any current time depends on my mood, genre mood, etc.

Well said. I am a big fan of the British Invasion big bands...the who, zeppelin, stones and on and on...for the 60’s and 70’s produced some of the greatest music...

The Beach Boys Pet Sounds is the album that always comes to mind as the first album that tried to match SGT Peppers...at least the one I’m most familiar with.

Pet Sounds came out a full year before Sgt. Peppers.

Back in the mid 2000, Plant assembled a band called The Strange Sensation, and they did a remake of Jimi Hendrix' "hey Joe" that sounded nothing like Hendrix did it and I didn't like it at first but the more I listened to it the more I started to like it.

Pet Sounds came out a full year before Sgt. Peppers.

pet sounds was made as a response to Rubber Soul. The beatles were making revolver when John and Paul heard Pet Sounds. They said it helped inspire them when making sgt. peppers. Brian Wilson was trying to beat them to the punch with his next record before Sgt. Peppers came out and for a number of reasons he never finished the album "Smile". Thankfully he did finish good vibrations.

if anyone out there hasnt seen it Love and Mercy is fantastic and tells the story of Brian's troubles in this time period of making Pet sounds. They actually shot it in some of the studios where Brian and the wrecking crew actually recorded the album. Its really great.

The reason time goes faster with age is that each day that passes becomes a smaller fraction of your life, thereby making them seem shorter by comparison.
