Letting Martin go would be a big mistake. Looking at the numbers - it is a LOT of money but well worth it. Finding a worthy replacement to an all pro G is not as easy as some are making it sound.
and to just think the great wall of dallas didn't even have a first round pick on it and they won three superbowls in four years and we have three first round picks and still cant make one deep playoff run
You don't need a all pro line be to win playoff games and get to the Superbowl
Dallas obviously thinks that though
I let him play out the 5th year option. What is the rush. The more information we have before we make our decision the better. I agree with you to some extent. The o line is almost all getting paid now and we have not really had any success. Look at Lael.and to just think the great wall of dallas didn't even have a first round pick on it and they won three superbowls in four years and we have three first round picks and still cant make one deep playoff run
I know Zack is one of the best G’s in football, but he is a G. Do we want to pay a G, 13 or more million a year. My point. Zack is only as good as the weakest link on the O line, especially when it comes to pass blocking. Look at last year, in general, our pass blocking was mediocre at best, and terrible at worst. I would rather have 5 solid O lineman and solid backups(see NE ) than 3 or 4 studs and below average backups. We spend way more money on our O line, than NE, and our O line was not near as effective as NE’s last year. I think we over spend on our O line starters and this causes us to go cheap in other areas. Personally, I would put more money into our D line. With a dominant D line all it takes is on guy to make a big play. Many a Super Bowl have been won by dominant D line play!! Jerry values, the SHOW, so we may never see a dominant D around here.
Some how some way the Cowboys need to find talent for the online in the later rounds and use some of those first round picks on defense. Let Martin play out his contract and in the meantime draft a 4th rounder and groom him to play guard.Great Post!
Over-kill for a G and our FAT offline will keep us Cap poor for years to come.....Defense what defense???
All our cap is invested in the offline and Dez....a great Defense will continue to be non-existent in Big D...
All defenses have to do aka Broncos is put 8 in the box and Zeke is a non-factor....
Let him walk and cut Dez and start building a Cowboy team that will be a force instead of the same old same old.....
You still have to trade him before or during next season or just lose him. Why not trade him now while teams have cap space.
I like the idea of investing in your o-line with the draft, over adding another 10% of the salary cap to it. Martin is a great player but in order to have a complete team you have to be able to spend money on those other parts. Right now the positional percentage the Cowboys are paying on the O-line is 22%. If you sign Martin at 12 million a year it is the same as Tron's percentage 10% add that to the rest of them; it comes out to around 33%. I don't like having to spend one third of teams entire salary cap on one position grouping, it's a determent to the rest of the team as a whole. If Martin was traded for a first and you plug in two brand new first round guards it will lower the cap percentage to just under 20%, that's more or less as much as I would want to allocate towards any one position group on the team. With the room they would have, they could resign Dak to a good contact and Zeke as well. I don' t think Dak is the guy though. I see them drafting a QB in the first next year to replace him, in this instance at least the O-line will have gelled for a year before throwing the new kid to the wolves.

they don't grow on trees. Unless we wanna trade him for 3 first round picks..or when can find a team that has the will to pull the trigger on that,I would keep him.Letting Martin go would be a big mistake. I agree, Cowboys can't be paying out money like this...Defense wins football games!!!To expensive, just trade him to Seattle for Earl Thomas and their first round draft pick this year. Then draft Isaiah Wynn and Will Hernandez at 18 and 19. Both guard spots locked up for 4 years with a fifth year option for cheap. Earl Thomas has the FS positon locked down and you can pay him because you don't have to pay Martin. Then you can worry about everything else knowing your offensive line is rock steady.
