This is a good signing and it clearly signals the Cowboys will be changing the members of the receiving corps in ways not yet clear.

Going into the offseason, this team was second in the NFL in cap space dedicated to the WR position. GB was #1 and they have already cut Jordy Nelson and may also be cutting Randall Cobb as well.

Someone (or more) has to go, and soon. Dez? Beasley? Switzer? Noah Brown? We know TWill’s contract prevents him from being cut now...maybe a trade, but that’s doubtful. With the addition of Hurns, who is outstanding from the slot as well as a regular wideout, I think either Beasley or Switzer may be vulnerable.

One thing is for sure- the WR position in 2018 is going to look very different.

Always thinking short term. Cutting Dez and using the money to sign guys like Lawrence, Martin, Hurns, ect....ect... make us a much better team. And the guys we can sign next year as well with the money as well.

Next year we can unload Dez (if we want to) with a $4m dead cap. Plus, I'm trying to win a Championship this year.

Good lord.

Hurns is now punching Terrence Williams.

Does he have violence issues?

Personally, I think he's the perfect guy across from him. He runs crisp routes and has great hands. He is money on timing routes and knows how to find the holes in the zone. In other words, he's e everything Dez isn't. I think Hurns can make people pay for rolling coverage to Dez and/or bracketing (if he stays). I really think this is a good signing for us and he fits our current offense better than just about anyone else that we available.

If you meant do I think they keep Dez, the answer is yes. Hurns isn't a number one and I think Dez CAN still be that #1 guy if the offense can make some adjustments. I'd really like to see them move on from TWill though.
tex--- i agree about TWill...this year especially ..passes bounced off him that turned into pick 6's...that cost us games....what do you think about..the chatter here who was saying what about pacakge Bease and a 3rd to Seattle for Earl Thomas?....i guess there have been reports "bease" could get the axe...and i wondered why?...but i would go for that package myself...also ET would have to give cowboy discount too

Youre just not a happy person are you? Always come after me with hate. I am just messing with you man. Its a message board not a courtroom.

lol - you're the one that was bothered by me making a comment on Dez possibly being cut such that you felt compelled to make a smart-a remark rather than simply point out that there was some information posted on it. Of course, you are also the one fabricating fantasy issues based on the evil that lurks in Jason Garrett's mind, which is actually pretty humorous. Seems to me you are the one eager to be unhappy.

Yes, but you can always put that player on injured reserve. If there's no market for them in the trade, we have no reason to hold them out. We would just proceed through preseason as regular because there's always a chance that another player might get hurt and we have to keep the player we were trying to trade or that another player might end up having a need.

Until there's a market, you plan on taking all seven through camp.

Cap, cap, cap. If Dez gets hurt, then not only do we still have his cap hit, but then we don't even have him playing.

How is that different than anyone else on the roster?

SHOW ME THE MONEY! ! !

We have about 4.5 mill in cap right now. Accounting for the top 51.

That doesn't count for Hurns or the 7+ mill we need for draft picks.

We still need a starting guard. Unless you are planning on rolling with a rook.

No online depth.

So where is this money coming from?

Witten? Bease? Dez?

Unless they do a deal for Martin and lower his hit THIS year, but having massive hits down the road. The same road that will have us needing to fork out 20+ mill a year to a QB.

Oh, and our starting Safeties are right now Heath and probably Woods.

Please, tell me how this all works out in your plan?

If Seattle would take that deal I would jump on it. I'm not sure Beas carries that much value to the Seahawks though.

This type of post is embarrassing.

Like you literally lose all football credibility.

You can dislike Dez. You can hate his salary. But to call Hurns a better player than Dez....Hurns...a guy who just sat on free agency into week 2....who was set loose by the Jaguars....who just signed a miniscule deal in this WR market...makes you look like a fool and a hater.

Or, viewed another way, your refusal to consider that Dez is a lesser player than Hurns may make you look like a narrow minded, rose colored glasses fool that sticks his head in the sand because you don't want it to be true.

What is is or is not is the subject or reasonable debate. It may be possible that Dez may be able to pull it together, but at the best he is a weak minded, slacker if he bounces back after coasting for three years after getting paid. At worst he is a weak minded cancer who is "done". We will probably eventually find out.

You should enlarge your view. It's a pretty narrow slice of the world.
