how is that?

just a guess on my part. DE depth chart probably looks something like this if he's signed.

RDE-Tyrone Crawford, Taco Charlton, Charles Tapper, Randy Gregory
LDE- Demarcus Lawrence, Kony Ealy

At that point, his salary is just unjustifiable.

6m is barely noticeable and a bargain for a starting RDE

6m is a bargain for a quality starting RDE, but Crawford isn't a quality starting DE imo.

designating him a post june first cut, frees up $6 million, which we likely won't use and only roll over, but it also saves us $6 million next year.

ealy is just a name that most people know....not anything more than a depth player at this point....but hey hes a name right so some are going to get very excited....

personally, i hope we get him at a cheap price, he could have some good upside but shouldnt be counted on right now as anything other than depth

He would be a rotational guy...at best ,he can start IF he has a tremendous camp and preseason..PLUS I think he only starts if someone goes down. But he has the tools to be great and is 26. Lets see if we sign him.

59 starts and 61 games played with 16.5 sacks and 130 tackles the last 4 years begs to differ

does it? Out of all the teams that run a 4-3, he ranks above Vinny Curry, Derrick Shelby, Alex Oakafor (tied actually), Robert Ayers (replaced by Vinny Curry), Andre Branch (tied as well), Jerry Hughes and Mario Edwards. So, out of the 17 or so teams, he's in a 3 way tie for 12th best. And to make matters worset, his $9.1 million dollar cap hit is more than all of them except Jerry Hughes and Andre Branch.

Garrett won him over with the process :lmao:

I guess I'm dense, because I don't see the value in throw-away snide comments like this one. (And I'm not meaning to single McKDaddy out specifically, because there are many, many comments from others just like this. He's just the target of opportunity here.) I suppose this is to signal to other commentors how "cool" you are because you dislike Garrett, also. But even reading this comment makes me feel like I'm a voyeur to some ridiculous circle-jerk, that never seems to end on Forum Boards like this one.

Do you REALLY get pleasure from making inane comments like this? What is your personal payoff? Seriously, I don't understand.

I'm not above a little back-and-forth with another poster. So, I'd get it if you were making a snide comment directly to a person, either to get under their skin to tick them off, or because you just don't like them, or just because you have a history with someone, and are having a little fun.

But Garrett is never going to look at a comment Board like this one. He'd be insane to expose himself to that kind of abuse. So I don't understand the value in making snide remarks about Garrett (or Jerry or Stephen or Dez or Dak or Romo or Witten, etc., etc.) to strangers on a comment board. You're not providing more information. There is no value to your contribution to the conversation.

Obviously, there is SOMETHING that the hundreds of guys who spend 98% of their time making comments like this one get out of doing it. Because they are both abundant in number, and prolific in their comments. But I honestly don't understand it. I mean, it's not just mental masturbation, because these posters get together and make comment after comment together, like their having some big mental orgy, or something. That's why I refer to it as a circle-jerk. I suppose that if that is how you have your fun...whatever. But it's pretty disgusting to watch, from my POV.

We're deep at DE as it is. I see 3 starters in Lawrence, Taco, and Crawford. Then Tapper, Jones, and maybe Gregory. Are they giving up on Tapper?

Is Ealy the Mayowa replacement? Better size as the backup for Lawrence at least. He is still young. Could give him a contract similar to Mayowa, where we get his rights for a few years. But I don't see much point in a 1 year deal, unless we've given up on Tapper.

Ealy is interesting as a top round retread who didn't pan out at other places. I guess even despite the crowd. Looks like the Cowboys might be trying to get some options so they can think about letting Lawrence walk.

Crawford rotating inside on passing downs is likely. I'd hope that Taco can become a 3 down player. I don't like Crawford's lack of speed at the edge, although putting Jaylon at SLB should help cover the right edge better than last year.

It's hard to tell how deep we are, or even at this point who will start other than Lawrence.

Charlton flashed potential, but is still developmental. Tapper flashed very briefly before getting hurt so he's definitely developmental. Jones had one sack in four games and has never had more than 3 1/2 in a season. Gregory has one sack in 14 games. We keep throwing Crawford out there at end because he's the only sure things we've got besides Lawrence, who wasn't a sure thing until last season.

If Ealy can do better than any of those unproven guys, then so be it. We need a consistent pass rusher and I don't care where it comes from. I think this has much less to do with Lawrence and a lot to do with our lack of proven pass rushers.
