Rumor: Mortensen: Witten to retire **merged**

Their not? How are they not? 13-3 two seasons ago with a first round bye and this past year a if no Zeke suspension you could add at least 2 wins. Not serious contenders? Unreal. Maybe you should go root for a serious contender.

Two of our wins were when we were playing a team out of the playoffs and a team playing third-stringers and we were already out the playoff race...

I just gave my reasoning and it has nothing to do with BB or Goodell. One can arrive at the conclusion without that quite easily.

yea I think you are confusing me with someone else because I didnt comment to you or what you thought about witten.

I mentioned the conspiracy about goodell giving it away from broaddus is completely ridiculous. thats all I dont even know what your theory is.

I am not sure what you are saying here. Seems you are confusing me with someone else. I know he didnt spring this on them today out of the blue.

I was watching the ‘pre-draft’ interview with the Jones clan and the Clapper and Stephen Jones was basically high on Witten and saying nobody is going to take the starting job from him and he will play until he decides to lace it up.

As I said before, who really cares the way the organization did Romo and Dez..

I think it does point to the fact Witten doesn’t have high hopes on this season ..

Fair enough. It was unclear to me. No big deal.

And I explained what my thoughts were. Mort's employer and interests, Wittens, the Cowboys, etc.

where I honestly havent read them. Sounds like they are similar to mine. I think Mort heard from an exacutive at espn and wanted to break the news so he did. I dont think witten nor the cowboys wanted it announced.

I dont care if witten did just tell them today though I am pretty certain he did not.

Witten has been running the workouts so he has been there everyday and there was no reason to think he would retire but they knew he was considering it and debating on his options.

I think Jason Witten should do what is best for him. He does not work in the front office here and is not part of roster building so if he decides to retire he owes them nothing.

Is that what BB is saying? I came up with the idea on my own. It makes sense.

It's known Witten has a great relationship with all of the Cowboys Brass. It also makes sense for a lot of reasons that they would want to keep it quiet until after the draft.

Mort works for the same company that owns Wittens prospective employer. He would not tweet that without talking to his editor etc unless he is an idiot.

you are repeating broaddus nonsensical bit about goodell referring to them as former cowboys.

If you dont want me to read your posts I won't. Have a good one.

I haven't repeated anything Broadus wrote because I don't read anything he writes. It popped into my head and thought it could be a possibility. I don't think it is far fetched for Witten to approach Jones before the draft and tell him that he plans on retiring and then they both decide to keep it quiet until after the draft so teams won't know we may be more aggressive in drafting a TE. Witten is a company man and he would do that for Jerry and the team. Unfortunately for both of them, not everyone can keep secrets and there are plenty of people that like leaking things for attention.

I didn't mean to get testy but I just don't like Broadus and you hit a nerve when you mentioned him in reference to me. No biggie, we are on the same team and we just want to see our team get better.

you think goodell gave it away when he said former cowboys, is that what you are saying? Cuz that is what broaddus said and its one of the most foolish things ever.
He didn't give a Freudian slip, he was referring more to Aikman and Staubach and all 3 are former MotY's. Goodell was still to busy scanning the audience for firearms and just wasn't thinking. Brave man to be low fiving those people up close. Little slip o the blade and he's bleeding out on the stage. And Elliott better have an alibi.

And let’s be honest.

At his age and the amount of years he was playing, for this to be an excuse that the Cowboys were not preparing for life after him and it is on Witten doesn’t fly...

they knew so its no big deal...david moore said tonight that they all knew but espn never made a money offer until very recently and that is what witten is contemplating. moore said they offered 4 years at 4.5 million a year to witten.

i think espn put it out there maybe to get his answer and that is pretty lousy.

For those reporting false cap hits multiple sources saying the same thing:

I get it’s Fisher...this is coming from multiple other sources as well.

That's great news. Hope it's the real deal. When looking at his conract it reads like the 4.7m was a restructured bonus pushed down the road.

You can take that "go root for another team" crap somewhere else. Some of us have been fans so long that we will watch you bandwagon fans come and go multiple times. If JJ would give me a refund for the past 23 years of losing, I might take a break though.

Yes, but it's not the ultimate prize in NFL broadcasting. It's down the list a bit in that regard.

It isn’t down the list very far, but in any case it’s plenty big enough to tempt a guy who is nearing retirement anyway and really doesn’t have much left to play for.

A championship isn't much?

The NFL landscape changes every year. What happens 1 year rarely matters when it comes to projecting the current year. Just look at how Dallas has finished over the last decade.

A championship isn't much?

A player can project statistical goals based on where they stand at the moment and a reasonable statistical expectation for a coming year or two. A player can’t do that with championships, and he cant just play forever waiting on it. And the opportunity to walk into a premier tv job without paying any dues as a broadcaster at all won’t always be there.

Wow, the Vander Esch pick pissed him off that much

Did you see this board after the LVE pick? It was pretty bad.

Apparently Witten was posting under a pseudo name and just said "F-this, I aint winning chit with a front office making picks like this".
