Rico had a FANTASTIC pre season last year and than they sidelined him all season with some mysterious head injury that I still dont believe.

And Stephen talks like he doeent really care for him

That dude is a baller, given him a shot!

Maybe they see something on the practice field, meetings and film rooms that doesn't warrant him getting more of an opportunity.

They have no choice but to give him a shot now.

Last year they got too concerned about setting the edges with their TE's that they just gave no thought to a guy who could potentially create big plays for them so they sidelined him for the entire year.

I have a hard time believing if he was truly ready, they wouldn't let him go. Jerry would be all over the "basketball player turned All Pro like Gates" media buzz. I'm thinking it's preparation....knowing the playbook, knowing his assignments, etc. Many guys come out with the terms engrained in their heads through football. He has none of that.

They’re not gonna play Rico until he’s composed his HOF acceptance speech.

While he may already be the G.O.A.T at the TE position, his speech-writing skills need a lotta work.

He wasn't nearly the blocker he needed to be to make the team.

Which IMO is a horrible reason when you consider his potential big play ability and the fact you can have multiple TE's on the roster.

But... That's probably one of the many reasons why our pass game was just about non-existent and big plays were hard to come by.

He'll certainly get his shot this year. It's been speculated by many here, which I agree, that Rico was placed on IR in order to prevent him from being nabbed from our PS. Not to say his initial injury wasn't real but there wasn't the room for him with our deep TE situation last year.

I'm excited to see him return and where he's at in his development - he's got the measurables and showed some serious flash last year

Very true. I guess they didn't want to be transparent and let the defense know it was a pass play every time Rico was on the field. Which would be silly because the offense was predictable anyway.

Not really. Suppose he's supposed to set the edge for a jet sweep that he doesn't and now you have a 7 yard loss instead of 15 yard gain. Or he misses the chip on blitzing LB and your QB gets torpedoed for a loss or injury. It's about being a COMPLETE TE, not just a down-the-seam pass catcher. It would be nice to see Rico develop and be a quality NFL TE, but I seriously doubt he's there at this point.

I think they will absolutely give Rico every chance this TC to prove or disprove himself. Stephen doesn't really project very well in interviews. He should leave that piece up to Will. (IMHO)
