Tavon Austin is Ridiculous

I don't know if he'll do anything significant with the Cowboys but he has ridiculous talent.

Ankle breaker for sure. His ability to change directions so quickly on the run reminded me of Dorsett (not comparing players, just that ability).

Zone has been calling for a more creative and less predictable offense. This off season has been one big “here ya go.”

he might be the best gadget player in the league. But he's still a gadget player. He'll never be a Desean Jackson clone who can break that barrier between gadget and elite receiver, nor will he ever be a great back.

Jackson was elite? :lmao2:

And who says Austin is a gadget player. Seems he made plays as a WR, RB, PR, KR. I don't call that a gadget player.
And he does not have to be great. He just needs to be effective in our offense. The NFL is full of just effective players.

when was desean jackson elite

Or were you implying he was middle of the road

Not sure how Desean Jackson and Tavon Austin are even in the same conversation.

But I DO think Austin was well worth a 6th round flier.

When it comes to Tavon— I wouldn’t get your hopes up. Keep your expectations realistic.

Jet sweeps, the occasional reverse, a direct snap here or there, and punt returns. I don’t see this offensive coaching staff being more imaginitive than that...

No one expected the Eagles to win the SB last year either.

I really like the Austin move for where the pick was. One, I like him for his speed alone. If he and Thompson both make the team, that alone gives the WR group something we haven’t had in a while.

I also like that he presents a wrinkle other teams will need to prepare for. He’s capable of a big play now and then, and with our OL and teams keying on Elliott and Beasley, and with a mobile QB, he’s another threat.

He won’t put up stupid numbers, but for a 6th round pick, he’s a good value. If you don’t like him, you have an inflated idea about the worth of a sixth round pick.

Question: who's a better receiver? Austin or Thompson......

He has speed. Can't hurt no matter where he is lined up as (rb/wr).
What?!?! So if your offense is good for 400 yards a game, as a DC how much would you worry about a guy who had averaged 22 passing yards a game? So what he is fast? That’s like having a super charged Dodge with no tires, where are you going.
The NFL only respects real threats. Tavon Austin is not one of them. And for the crowd who thinks Fisher ruined him just stop. McVay had every clip of film of Austin and wanted nothing to do with him. And he is much more of an offensive guru than Garrett. Fortunately for him old Jerry is still somehow a GM.

I don't know why people compare him to Lance Dunbar...I hope he's better than Dunbar since Dunbar has never done anything, anywhere...........

You’re talking about the Austin under Fisher, you’re talking about Austin with awful qb play, a team with no offensive line, and no they talent on offense, but him. What would you have expected him to do in that organization? He wasn’t healthy in Mcvay first year.
So I gather you think you know more of his capabilities than a coach who saw him everyday? LMAO. McVay had every clip of film on Austin as well. You think YOU know how he can change things and a proven NFL coach missed it? Dude get a grip. McVay knows more than you, and he gave his opinion...

Way I see it is Austin has great skills and now has a fresh start. What he did or did not do with the Rams is meaningless. I only concern myself with how he will fit in with the Cowboys.

The hyperbole is ludicrous.

Is Tavon Austin as good as desean Jackson? Of course not.

But Austin has put up seasons with 600-800 total yards with 6-8 TD’s. Between rushing and receiving.

He isn’t slop. He can be a good complimentary piece to an offense. He just can’t be the focal point.

Saying he is slop is just flat out inaccurate.
How has he put up 6-8 TDs per year if he only has 13 total in 5 years? My math saids that equals 2.6 TDs/year on average. Maybe you have some new math?

His relatively high rate of fumbles as a receiver, kr, pr would argue with this. So would the lack of production at receiver.

If he's just a gadget player who can break one now and then he was well worth a 6th.

Don’t know, but I think Thompson’s got a chance to produce for us. Especially off of play action. And the fact that he’s worked with Lal before helps.

Austin’s a more explosive player, though. I want to see them both on the field on a running down and see what defenses do. It ought to open things up for Elliott. Even if they’re not great receiving threats, you have to respect the speed.

The funny part is the Rams signed Dunbar to take over some of the duties that Austin had, but Dunbar being Dunbar he got injured. If Dunbar doesn't get injured, Tavon sees even less than his 72 total touches for the season on offense.
