I paid for my attitude during Viet Nam and Desert Storm...you just think you can insult on one of my posts as you choose,

What does your career choice have to do with your demeanor on this board?

Your grumpy old man act, firing off insults at anyone who disagrees with you, is stale.

I'm not so sure were that far away. If dlaw and lve and jaylon pan out. You add a good offseason next year I think were in the mix for years to come. Obviously theres some questions with dak but they will be answered this year.

The problem is that the media will never again see things for Dallas in that vein of understanding...not in today's society that loves to drain another's miseries as indicators of their own vanity.

Wow, just came to this post. Not reading the article, but the headline. Otay. Our roster as it stands is mediocre, is that the jist of it? We are the Cleveland Browns now this roster .

Until this team comes together, then there are a boatload of unknowns and to be provens.

near a finished product.“We’re so far away,” Garrett said. “We’re not even close to where we need to be. But we’re doing what we need to do
that is a horrible statement

I'm not sure of the exact point of the article. It's not a bad article per se but doesn't really match the headline.

If there was ever in a time limited window, it's not this season with a super young roster.

Garrett's window might be closing and Jerry's due to age but the overall team is much closer to the beginning of something than the end.
Wrong. NFL isn't about a slow long term process. Injuries and free agency ensure that. A young roster doesn't guarantee a high caliber team in a few years or a long run. Young players get old fast in the NFL or hurt or leave.

Teams don't gradually build w young guys. They either have a system in place (Belichick not Garrett) or they turn it around quick (Eagles)

Whether the Cowboys brain trust is willing to put the message out, the subtext is screaming. Owner Jerry Jones is too old for another cycle of missed opportunity. His son Stephen is too impatient for it. And the fan base – well, it’s safe to say all is not well after watching the division rival Philadelphia Eagles do a flash rebuild and then win a Super Bowl behind quarterback Nick Foles and head coach Doug Pederson.

that was a perfect fit. The seemingly imperfect coach and undeniably imperfect quarterback found the flawless groove precisely when they had to have it. Which is something no Cowboys team has done in more than 20 years. Much to the chagrin of an owner who would likely reach the point of desperation if 2018 doesn’t finally deliver something seriously meaningful." data-reactid="63" style="margin-bottom: 1em; caret-color: rgb(38, 40, 42); color: rgb(38, 40, 42); font-family: "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; -webkit-text-size-adjust: 100%;">For whatever reason, that was a perfect fit. Double wrong.

You created a strawman and then responded to your strawman, not to what I said.

One of the worst things teams do is to make decisions based on the 1 player away concept (It could be 3 players or whatever but is based on a win now go for it approach).

Jerry was motivated by that concept to trade for Joes Galloway. We've seen many teams do some form of it.

The 1-player away approach is basically the opposite of the Patriot's approach. They have acquired a big time player here and there but rarely make risky commitments to player in trades of mega-contracts.

More often they've traded away top tier talent. The majority of Cowboys fans would have mega-meltdowns if the Cowboys traded away Chandler Jones, Jamie Collins, Logan Mankins, etc..

The go for it concept in the draft often fails:
Trade up for Claiborne.

Stephen and crew saved Jerry from a go for it move with Manziel.

Jerry was again saved when he wanted to push his chips in on QB Paxton Lynch.

The Cowboys also had some years where they kept too many veteran players because they were slightly better than some young players that were cut. That approach made it difficult to improve from year to year and led to cap issues and an aging roster.

'We're so far away': The Cowboys are in a fight against time, mediocrity

*(try reading this one)

...One of the few for the Cowboys in this week’s minicamp, which may have been summed up most accurately by head coach Jason Garrett when he said the team (and the offense in particular) is nowhere near a finished product.“We’re so far away,” Garrett said. “We’re not even close to where we need to be. But we’re doing what we need to do as we go.”

To be fair to Garrett and the Cowboys, this is a typical mid-June rhetoric for NFL teams — the majority of which grind out their final practices before the summer break and then clutch the franchise pearls over how much work is left ahead. But even inside that textbook lament, it’s fair to say these Cowboys are holding their breath as much as anyone else in the NFL. Partially because this is a roster familiar with mid-summer vacation embarrassment. But mostly because Dallas is a franchise that badly needs everything to go right this season … on and off the field.

The future of the coaching staff is depending on it. The contract talks of the starting quarterback are hanging on it. And plenty of other careers are balancing in between...
Garrett giving us some solid confidence to have faith in........or he could already be building his list of excuses ahead of time trying to buy another year.

No strawman. We are not building anything here. There has been zero consistency season to season with Garrett and it won't start now. He sucks at coaching and his GM sucks at GMing. There is no long term buildup.

Good GMs and coaches turn teams around in a year or two, not this endless up and down process. That's just the way it works nowadays it's not about one magic player but also not about hoping all this hyped young talent pans out.

We have a good Oline and that's it. Noting else is championship caliber or becoming that way.
