In that game it wasn’t just about icing the kicker. Garrett’s game management had us settling for a 51 yard FG when every other coach in the league would have run at least 1 more play to try and get a shorter FG....

Garrett did blow that game, I agree. But not by icing his kicker, which was the point I'd responded to.

There was confusion on the sidelines right before the kick. The ST coach wanted to call a timeout because the play clock was under 10 seconds. Garrett then took his time walking up the ref and called timeout if you watch the clip, he just casually walks a few steps and then calls timeout. The reports were Garrett was unclear until after the game why the ST coach wanted a timeout there - he thought the play clock would expire.

The Icing the kicker dilemma is only pertinent cause he missed the kick. Some fans need something to blame beyond the kicker.

Bottom line: Garrett made 2 mistakes in the last 30 seconds of that game to cost us the game. Think about that Garrett supporters, 2 mistakes in the last 30 seconds of a game. Pretty reasonable. They weren't settled, his ST coordinator asks for it, the HC calls it. They had two TOs in their pocket so there was no reason not to use one. Nothing wrong with that, at all. He got the TO off in time. I don't see how you fault him for any of that.

If you want to get on him, they had time to run a play and a TO to burn prior to clocking it. Even a short throw and a TO makes the kick a lot easier. Like I said, Garrett blew the clock management and possibly cost the team that game, but it wasn't because they called a time out before kicking it. The only reason people are mad is because Bailey made it the first time and missed it the second.

Your like Garrett. Won’t admit his mistakes. It was a no brainer to call timeout right away. Romo hesitated and didn’t call timeout right away and Garrett didn’t take charge. They both stood there and let 20-25 seconds tick off the clock. Also, Bailey did make the first kick that should have won the game for us, but didn’t, because Garrett iced his own kicker!!!!

Garrett is the head coach. It’s his call to let the clock run or not.

Garrett is the most fascinating coach in football. His supporters want people to think he’s a decent or good coach but apparently the guy has no responsibilities as head coach.

I need a gig like that. Lots of money, people demand I get respect but I also have zero responsibilities.

It makes a big difference. Not running an offensive play with 8 second left and two TOs is not the same as 'icing your own kicker.' Fault the guy for the mistakes or judgement calls he actually made. There's no reason to make something up to be angry about.

The TO before the kick wasn't a mistake at all. It was the right call under the circumstances.

And there are situations where every coach makes good decisions and bad ones. Sometimes the games do come down to split-second judgement calls.

You can wait until 1 second to call timeout if you think they are struggling to get the kick off. And the kicker or holder can also call timeout if they feel rushed which McBriar said wasn’t the case.

He screwed up twice in that game.
