Thanks for sharing this, but it would be really helpful if we actually knew what the "really high price" was.

Multiple picks is what I've heard, also heard the two sides aren't even close. Tells me the Seahawks are intentionally asking for too much and the Cowboys are standing their ground. Good change, in the past, Jerry would've given up the farm to get him. Looks like he learned his lesson after the Joey Galloway and Roy Williams fiascos.

What if you are wrong about Richard, maybe he is the one holding the trade up. He obviously knows more insider info than anyone. He maybe looking to the future of the Cowboys when he becomes DC next year.
Interesting take

Np. The most interesting thing to me is that they've still had discussions about this post-draft.

Me too. And that contradicts someone else's report (maybe Jane Slater?) that they haven't talked since before the draft.

Donald is a defensive tackle, something this team is lacking.....Donald would be more of an impact on this defense than an overpriced safety who also wants a large contract

You can't refer to Donald as if the Cowboys would have the same ability to make a trade for him as they would for Thomas. The Rams are on an upswing, and have expectations of being a Superbowl contending team, whereas Seattle is on a slide and in rebuild mode. Accordingly the Rams don't have the same motivation to trade a high quality player, and in fact have much more incentive to hold onto top players than Seattle does. In addition, the Rams aren't faced with losing Donald next year with no compensation the way the Seahawks are with Thomas. Donald will be a restricted free agent, whereas Thomas will be unrestricted, therefore the Rams have more control and are less likely to feel forced to make a trade.

For me, the problem is the contract ext. he want a fat contract, and we have some problems next year, Lawrence and Irving contracts

I seem to recall a Herchel Walker deal and deals around drafts that lead to a Dynasty...and don't you dare say that was Jimmy Johnson.

Obviously a great deal, and I agree we can't attribute it all to Jimmy, but that was a hell of a long time ago. Jerry and the Cowboys haven't proven to be particularly productive with trades most of the years since.

Both teams have their players under contract so the players have no leverage, they can both whine and complain about getting a new contract but when it's mandatory for them to show up or not get paid, they're going to be there......And I can refer to Donald because this is wishful thinking, I'd rather a defensive linemen over a safety and Seattle can hang onto him and receive a compensatroy pick for him if he walks.....this isn't an either or scenerio, just both player want a new contract and if I had a choice, I'd trade for Donald before Thomas.

That was Jimmy Johnson and that was over 25 years ago...

But Seattle is faced with the reality that Thomas can walk after the season and they wouldn't get one iota of compensation. The Rams don't have that concern, therefore they aren't forced to make a decision the way the Seahawks are.

If we are just talking about wishful thinking, there are a lot of players many of us would love to have, but in a reasonable discussion we (and the Cowboys) have to be realistic about the fact that just because we like a player doesn't mean there is an opportunity to make an acceptible trade for him. Thomas is in the discussion because we know Seattle has been trading veterans to build for the future, and because Seattle has been open to the idea of trading Thomas. That's entirely different than what the Rams have indicated.

What are you referring to by saying "wouldn't get one iota of compensation"?

Thomas will be an unrestricted free agent, so Seattle won't be entitled to any compensation if he signs with another team after the season.
