You can ignore his suspension if you want but it's a fact it did happen. So did the injuries. So did his really good last season. It all factors in.

Before last year's breakout season many wondered if he would get a second contract. We are still wondering for different reasons. He was for most intents and purposes a one year wonder.

But he came close to a 10 sack year the season before. So its not like he has had one successful season in the NFL

Taco is better at controlling the run game and still have that desired length/size that can not be taught. If he can get the technique down he will be a good to great player.

Both have a good shot at multiple sacks this year and that is a win win.

Charlton and Randy both have their work cut out for them without us coming to preconceived conclusions as to who's best. Let's hope they both make the grade and leave it at that. Randy will be challenged to stop the run and Taco will be challenged to get sacks. There's plenty to keep both of them busy for the remainder of 2018 by the looks of things. May they both prove themselves worthy of whatever successes they might have.

I think Taco's issue is more of being unsure of his decisions. His technique sucks somewhat as well, but that can possibly be corrected. I actually wanted him, if we didn't pick Watt. But, after looking at videos of him, where I could focus more... he has a lot of work to do. But, I feel like confidence and technique are the main issues. I think he could be a surprise though, if he can get into a groove.

Gregory, when he makes it to the field on week 1, I will start paying attention to him.

Taco Charlton was compared to Justin Tuck coming out of College. I think that's a good comparison. Tuck had 66.5 sacks over an 11 year career - an average of 6 sacks per season. He also had 4 really good years when he had 10+ sacks.

Gregory has wasted his first 3 seasons in the NFL. But he still has the potential to be a 100+ career sack guy. I compare Randy Gregory to Jason Taylor played 15 years, and had 139.5 sacks. Taylor had 16.5 sacks in his first 3 seasons, while Gregory has had only 1 sack. But even if you subtract the difference, Gregory could still have a career where he has over 120 sacks.

The difference in talent between Gregory and Charlton is day and night. I'm not suggesting that Charlton isn't a nice player to have on the roster. Tony Tolbert was a key contributor to the Super Bowls the Cowboys won in the 1990's. And like Justin Tuck, he averaged around 6-7 sacks per year over his 9 year career (59 sacks total). Charlton is good enough that the Cowboys could consider letting DeMarcus Lawrence walk after this season if his price is too high, or he has another down year. But Gregory is a special talent. If he's truly put the drug issues behind him, the Cowboys could have their next great pass rusher.

Gregory is much better run defender than credited plus he is almost as long as Taco. His explosion off snap, speed, hand strength, bend around edge are truly what separates him from Taco.

Still believe Tacos best spot is LDE

All the dline assignments but Collins made no sense to me last year, and most people didn't like that one either.

I think with LDE, they're playing opposites, letting our best rusher go against the RT instead of LT. If they weren't doing that, Taco would make more sense at LDE.

This year, we've got Gregory, Armstrong, and Tapper as the more prototypical RDEs. Didn't have any of them last year. Hard to see giving Taco too many pash rush snaps with those guys as the alternatives.
