Not everywhere. Just against the haters like yourself. You reap what you sow.

No, it's everywhere. You can lie to yourself but not anyone else. The "hate" begins and ends with you. You once again brought it here.

I pity you for the miserable life you must lead.

And remember your "reap what you sow" comment when it's placed on your headstone, when your tired act is finally and thankfully bounced from this forum.

I agree about concerns at defensive tackle, but who is it you personally are missing there?

And who is the linebacker downgrade?

Both our starters are out at DT. Those are the facts. Not good.

Wilson is the downgrade at LBer. And in reality, Jones is a downgrade at CB over Scandric. Scandric was our best corner for years.

Until he started sustaining injuries, Scandrick was playing at a top 10 level.

Scandrick was trash last year and missed time.

You didnt bother reading my entire post did you?
Your very first sentence is, and I quote "I'm still baffled how people think we have a much better defense". That's your very first sentence, I gave you reasons why they think it's better. Did you forget what you wrote

Yes, but Collins is already suiting up and it's a matter of days until his return. And besides, you're not a fan of his anyway. Why is his not being on the field right now a big loss for you?

Wilson is the downgrade at LBer.

Why? He's the same guy from last year. And he's going to be playing very little anyway.

What "reality" is this? Certainly not the playmaking variety. Scandrick was a slot corner with hands of stone. He couldn't catch a football if you handed it to him. Are you really mourning his loss?

Are you so ignorant that you fail to realize that calling people "haters" is the start of "personal insults"?

Or are you a hypocrite that thinks that the same rules you have for others don't apply to you?

Don't care where Hitchens went in the draft. IMO he's a top 10 off ball LB in the league and is now rightly paid like one. I also think Hitchens was much better than Jaylon last year.
Hitched wasnt much better than Jaylon last season.

Hitchens 84 combined tackles 29 assist tackles 0 sacks 0 picks

Jaylon 81 combined tackles 31 assist 1 sack 0 picks

Hitchens has more snaps but yet Jaylon had a sack where hitchens has none. Not only that Jaylon would have had a pick if it's wasn't raining and not wearing a brace that restricted his lateral movements.

Best corner for years but not last year. 2 rookies out performed him and Jones has been locking down receivers left and right so far.

As far as DT Irving was suspended last year and Collins was hurt. You can't downgrade from that

Yep.

These are the actual numbers I was referring to earlier. Thanks for posting them.

Overall production was very close while Smith in fact had a few more "playmaking" moments. Admittedly, he also had more lapses too. But I don't think it's arguable that Smith still has tremendous upside and potential while Hitchens is who he is at this point. Solid, not spectacular.

Hitchens has injury issues as well. You couldn't count on him. While anybody can get hurt in football it was good to see Jaylon play a full season with no set backs when he had to wear a brace. Jaylon is clearly an upgrade over hitchens and anybody that says different just didn't like the Jaylon pick to begin with

I don't know how i feel about his pay level other than it was more than we could pay. Othewise, think you summarized it quite nicely.

Scandrick was a bum the last 2 seasons. The rookies upgraded him last year already...other than that I agree and I am not sold on the Defensive line or linebackers at all. We have no idea what the rookie will do (most likely not much) and I'm 100% not sold on Jaylon Smith either even if he is 100% speed. He always looks lost. Lawrence and Lee are the only proven guys that can cause an opposing offense issues right now. Lee is always one play away from being out for 6 games. I'd be shocked if our defense was top 15 this year. Hope I'm wrong.

I agree with everything you wrote. Some forget both our DT (Irving and Collins) were out last season as well. For the same reasons they are out this season. How can you not upgrade from not available

I agree with you about the corners and Scandrick but I totally disagree with you about Jaylon looking lost or the defense not being top 15. Jaylon wasn't lost, he knew the play but couldn't move lateral to adjust to the runners jukes and cuts. The brace restricted him but he absolutely wasnt lost

From a sheer talent/pedigree standpoint, I don't see how we can't look to be markedly improved over week one last year.

Byron Jones / Chidobe Awuzie is currently starting over Nolan freakin' Carroll!

Anyone want to not consider that a vast improvement? Anyone? Anyone?

I didn't think so.

And like you've pointed out, both Collins and Irving were unavailable at this time last year too, for the exact same reasons. But now the team has former 1st and 2nd round talents in Datone Jones and Jihad Ward for depth if nothing else. Does that not look better than Thornton and Stephen Paea from last year?

To say nothing of the positive reports on both Brian Price and Antwaun Woods. (And this is coming from a guy who also has legit concerns about the 1-tech position!)

More than anything else on this team, the defense has me optimistic.
