I hope he recovers. But really, why us? Then again, I hope he is healthy.

Not at all. Young people diagnosed and treated early have an excellent prognosis.

The chances are better for Fredbeard than most. Big money behind him, and he likely did something about it earlier than most do.

If most people feel weak, they shrug and try not to exert themselves. Probably seriously drop strength before they get to the doctor. Fredbeard has been playing. He couldn't have dropped that far. It probably didn't progress that far before he got serious about doing something. And he says he's already feeling better.

Just my take but since we have LIMITED experience of dealing with this, wouldn't surprise me if he's IR'd for the year. This way he gets a chance to first, see if there a treatment plan that allows him to continue his career, second, can he continue his career at a high level and third he can do this w/o worry when/if/how fast he can return. Just shut him down for a year.....

Just as Dallas did with Jaylon they will do with Frederick and that is put it in the hands of doctors. Jerry gets accused for playing doctor? all he has done is refer to the information he is getting from medical people. I have no doubt the organization will be in constant communications with the doctor and Frederick though out the course of this.

Fredericks an O-linman ... he'll be back at some point ... I doubt we were going to the super bowl this year ... so even if he missed a year, that would not be the worst thing. A whole year to rest the body could extend Frederick's career.

Gullian-Barre is the disease that put FDR in a wheelchair. Having that as the root cause of "stingers" is basically the worst case scenario.

The prognosis I'm hearing on here is far better than I thought when I first heard "auto-immune nerve disorder", but I would not be surprised if this cost him most or all of 2018. Even if the disease itself is cured in 1-2 months, he'll probably be out of football shape if it prevents him from lifting with his arms or working out.

There is no cure. At best he can get the symptoms under control in a few months.

Well, that was like 100 years ago. Back when pertussis and measles were killing children by the thousands. Not saying he's going to play this year, but I doubt he becomes wheelchair bound.

Top 10 Pick almost guaranteed now.

He was one of five Players that the success of a season hangs onto. The others being Dak, Zeke, T-Smith and Martin. If one misses the season we are done.

Get well soon Fredbeard.

Dak better be going to some David Copperfield Shows now and learn some new tricks about escaping.

Man the histrionics with some people around here.

GBS isn’t necessarily a permanent condition. People can make a full recovery from it.

The “his career is over” stuff is way too premature.

Indeed most people recover within a year.
In addition a second attack is rare.

I have an uncle that contracted Guillen-Barre in his mid-late 50's. He started feeling gradually weaker, until he couldn't get out of bed one day. Went to the local hospital, where they were testing him, and kind of diagnosing him (they weren't sure), for a stroke. After 24 hours, my cousin transferred him to the Cleveland Clinic.

Within another 24 hours, they had an accurate diagnosis, and had started treatment. They were able to predict the course of the disease almost perfectly. They said he would get progressively weaker, more difficult to breathe, and would require a ventilator just to breathe. All of that came to pass. He was in the hospital for a month, and in intensive care for about a week (from what I remember-this was about 15 years ago)--later he told me the ventilator was the worst part of the whole disease. They also predicted recovery, but they couldn't predict the extent of the recovery, or the timeline with nearly as much detail as the progression of the disease.

He did eventually recover, but for him, it was a long process--sounds like it was similar to what Schlereth went through.

Prior to the surgery he was physically very strong--had worked in an auto factory putting 95 pound bumpers on vans every 90 seconds. He had built several houses, renovated a couple more, and helped various people in our family with roofs, and additions to their houses. After the surgery, he still planted a huge garden, but never took on construction projects again. I don't know how much of a factor age was, he was something like 57 or 58 when he got it, so he may not have done so, even without getting sick. I don't think he was ever quite as vigorous afterwards, but it would still probably count as a full recovery.

I don't think it ever recurred with him.

It sounds like Frederick has a mild case (prior to this I didn't even know there were such things). I am not dismissing anything with this disease. People that say his career may be over--they could be right. Likewise, people that say he will fully recover in two or three months--they may be right. Who knows? Nothing would surprise me here.

Most people eventually make a full recovery from Guillain Barre syndrome, but this can take a long time and some people have long-term problems. The time it takes to recover can vary from a few weeks to a few months, or sometimes several years. The vast majority of people recover within a year.

Wow talk about over reaction...we lose one guy that was part of the top 5 we were counting on and suddenly were a top 10 pick, meaning 6 or fewer wins?

God help us if we lose two more of them, based on your math we could be negative in the wins coloum
