Some of you are writing off Dalton Shultz way too soon.
He just turned 22 last mo th, is 2 1/2 years younger than Gathers, and already ahead of him in several aspects.
He's also only about 1/2 inch shorter and weighs 260
He is also slightly faster than Rico

Plenty of room for him to grow as a player

I agree there is plenty of growth room for him, and I would hate not keeping him, but if the team decides it can only keep 3 TEs a tough choice will have to be made.

Swaim is a pretty good all around TE. I liked the buzz on Jarwin, and he’s usable in the passing game. He needs to look out for an all around TE shaking loose on someone else’s roster. If that happens, and they only keep one developmental TE, if Rico shows up in the last two games Jarwin may have a tough case for making the team. Schulz gets a year no matter what. But if I’m considering keeping four TEs to fit Rico on the roster, I need two guys who can legitimately block

Swaim and Schultz can block, Jarwin will be the odd man out if they go 3 deep and Rico plays out of his mind tonight. Expecting at least "look-out!" block that gets Cooper Rush planted.

I hope he makes the team. I'm willing to gamble on him than this other slop at the position. Just let him play. We have nothing to lose.

Rico has made 3 big time plays in how many targets in preseason the last two years? A half dozen? A dozen?

Swaim is in his fourth year, 3 years on the 53. How many of his catches can you even remember, let alone call big time plays?

Didn't he have like a 27 yard catch in 2016?

I still think they can keep four tight ends. They can go short at running back if think they can get Bo Scarbrough or Darius Jackson on the practice squad. Fullback Jamize Olawale is good enough with the ball in his hands to be the third RB behind Zeke and Rod Smith.

Last I heard, Schulz really wasn't strong enough to block at the NFL level. He was getting pushed around. Wasn't expected to be much of a receiver yet, and has fulfilled that expectation. Basically, just not ready. I expect him to be the cut. 4th round pick, but really not ready for the 53 this year.

Meanwhile, they like Jarwin enough to put him on the 53 last year, and he sounds like the best all around receiver of the bunch right now. Not Rico athleticism, but good receiver, and can run routes. I don't know how his blocking is going, but he is supposed to be a FB/TE type.

I wonder about Olawale. I've heard nothing about him this offseason. Good or bad. I wonder if he could be the cut. Maybe they figure Jarwin is enough of a FB, or at least not that much less than Olawale.

I bet both Bo and Darius make the PS. Certainly Bo. Someone might take Darius as a ready to play NFL back if they've got injuries and need insurance against having no one. Bo is 7th round and not ready to go.

Olawale could be a gameday 3rd, but they bring Darius up from the PS if Zeke or Rod go down.

I agree. Only differences are that all the catches Swaim has made that counted were in regular season. That’s not Ricos fault he hasn’t had the opportunity. It’s just there are reasons he hasn’t had the opportunity. Blocking (which has apparently improved) and assignments which is the apparent current problem.

I have said it and some may think it was a joke but it wasn’t. Someone point out who to block to make sure until he gets it. JG said it himself, he can’t practice enough. Meaning he has to be in games. I have no doubt he can make these catches in regular season. Put him in, if he is Chaz green bad them pull him. You can’t put him in on only passing downs or defenses will figure it out and double him. As it is now they will change things up at the last second around him to attempt to fool him or confuse him.

You don't have to double someone who's too slow to outrun a double-team.

Yeah if we go 4 TE which I think is a mistake then we have to go short somewhere else. And I heard today from SJ we will already be going long on WR. So it comes out some where. I run the heck out of BO this game and the next. If he is good and ready keep him. If not the he gets sniped from PS. But it is what it is. Jackson may or may not get sniped.

I don’t think they will keep only 2 RBs on the active roster. My guess is Jackson sticks and Bo goes to the practice squad. Jackson will also help on special teams.

Maybe what it comes down to. Who ever is the better ST player. Jackson is quicker. Do they want a bruiser or speed.
