Another thing I would do if he comes back is make him play special teams and earn a starting spot. Make him rotate with the other guys to make him strive to play great

Heart or no heart. Mental or not. Opposing defenses would still have to account for him on the field. No opposing defense is doing that now with the WR's Dallas has.

Bring Dez back. Get rid of one of the real problems.. Lenihan....

I think you take him back. For this one reason. He wants to prove everyone wrong.

Not to mention we have no playmakers on the outside.
There is a reason we released Dez in the first place. The routes that Dez runs well to the outside Dak doesn't throw well and Dez isn't really fast enough to run go routes. Hence the abysmal numbers that Dak and Dez put up together.

For Dak to succeed he has to threaten the outside so that defenses can't simply clog the middle of the field and have to defend the whole field. I thought this meant Dak learning to throw those intermediate out routes 10-20 yards downfield. Those are basically the routes that Dez is good at, but are the throws Dak is worst at. But instead they are relying on the go-route to force safeties to defend all parts of the field, and this is something that Dak does throw well.

So its obvious that this has been the plan for a long time because if you need to be able to threaten go routes on the outside every play you need speed on the outside. No reason to keep Dez at any price because that is not his route (I don't think they thought he wouldn't sign anywhere else) and the routes he can run we can't get him the ball. Add Austin and other speedier WRs -- even take back Butler who showed he had some chemistry with Dak on the deep ball.

The sad reality is that we don't need Dez. If we can hit enough go-routes to keep defenses defending it then the inside routes will open back up again, and things will look much more like Dak's rookie year.

Garrett won't get us into to the playoffs, yet again .

Why does Dez want to come back ?!

I think the Cowboys should be shopping Lee around. When we have a FO that basically accepts a player WILL BE hurt 3-5 weeks of the year, that is an issue. He is great when he is on the field, but he can't stay on the field.

I don't know what else they were supposed to do. We drafted LBs and are preparing for a future without him. Also not sure what shopping him around would net us. Hes older and injury prone. I think we finish the year with him and reevaluate.

If Dez makes you better, and you can get him for a bargain / cap friendly contract then you absolutely do it. If the answer to both questions is not yes then you don’t do it. It’s pretty simple honestly. This is a business and shouldn’t be emotion driven. Dez didn’t burn any bridges, the stuff he said would be forgotten with an apology and the first TD catch he makes.

Dez is useless if Dak is in checkdown / only throw to wide open receiver mode. However, if he can do more of what he did against Detroit and throw into tight coverage and trust his guys to make plays then Dez is much more valuable. Dez is not 5 anymore but he could be a top 15-20 guy and we have no one like that right now.

I think at best he would get us a conditional 6th so I think we're better off riding out the year with him and then letting him go. I doubt he will be a starter again as long as Smith and LVE keep progressing.

Yes and at that he may take a pay cut to stay with us. Hes still a great player imo. For the right price Im keeping him for those 10-12 games a year.

Here's my very thoughtful non-sarcatic take on what's going to happen.

Since the Cowboys brass didn't say anything to challenge or rebut Dez's statement about wanting to be a Dallas Cowboy again, they're going to wait & see what happens against Houston Sunday night.

1. We beat Houston & string a couple of wins together. They say nahhh.. No need to bring that back into the locker room. We're moving forward and it appears to be working.

2. We lose to Houston and again show a lack of consistency. At this point, I believe they will seriously consider bringing Dez back at the vet minimum (perhaps a few mil) with some escalators built in based upon performance.

As I have already noted, if he clouds the locker room ala the old Dez, them they cut him again. Win win situation.

But I think they wait to see what happens Sunday night.

We should beat Houston regardless. It's the teams after that are the problem.
