Many players on the team that you saw in the Super Bowls were there before Jimmy arrived, including three starters on the offensive line, Newton,Tuinei,and Gogan. They had Michael Irvin, Ken Norton, Jim Jeffcoat, Bill Bates, Kelvin Martin, and Chad Hennings after his military obligation).They still had Herschel Walker.

Everyone knew Schramm was going to draft Aikman with the #1 overall pick. Landry had attended a few of Aikman's workout himself, Landry had changed his defensive coordinator because he had come up with a new defense, a 4-3, 3-4 hybrid.

And if the game had "passed him by", as so many revisionists like to say about Coach Tom Landry, then I am confused every time I watch a game on TV. Why? Because half of what I still see today was invented by the man. I still see the 4-3 defense. I still see offensive pre-snap motion. I still see passing from the shotgun. The game could never have passed Landry by because he would have simply changed it.

Landry would have rebuilt the Cowboys into winners and it would have been quick. I am by no means saying that he would have won three Super Bowls, we will never know, but the idea that the Cowboys were "in the gutter", either financially or competitively is ridiculous.

But the real point is, how much time does these Super Bowls buy you? How long is the excuse, "But he is responsible for bringing 3 Super Bowls" supposed to last? As long as Landry? Landry lasted seven seasons after his most recent NFC championship appearance. Jones has been so-called GM for almost four times as long after his.

And as far as the 90's "dynasty" is concerned, a dynasty typically lasts at least ten years.It was Jerry's fault that it lasted half that time. All we have to do is remember little gems like "500 coaches could coach the Cowboys" and "Emmitt Smith is a luxury not a necessity"toremind us of his contribution.

Who cares about Jerry's resume? He won 3 SB's because he hired Jimmy Johnson. Has won 2 playoff games since the Dynasty ended. The Dallas Cowboys were already a big brand when he bought the team. Tex Schramm and Tom Landry built the brand. Jimmy expanded it and Jerry's been living off it ever since. If he had bought the Chargers like he originally wanted nobody would care what he would have done. Would have been one of 32 owners. The only reason anyone cares about him is because of the Dallas Cowboys. As for the HOF, he's in for things he did for the NFL not for what he did with the Cowboys.

You said it all,JJ's incompetence as a GM and owner did not get him to the HOF it earned him the disdain of the fans who are tired of his BS. The Dallas Cowboys are Jerry's hobby, and he really sucks at his hobby.

To be fair, Jerry is in the HOF for being an owner, not a GM. He does deserve to be in the HOF for being an owner, his business sense has done wonders to grow the game and the NFL into being the national pastime. A GM? Not so much.

As others have said, I think Jerry wants to win more than all of us on Cowboys Zone put together. The problem lies in the fact that he wants his personnel decisions to be a key component of us winning, at the expense of... well, you've seen what's happened since Jimmy left. I know how stupidly optimistic I am about this team every year, I can only imagine how overly-optimistic I would be if I had put the team together myself and was signing the checks. Also, think of it this way- Jerry has been successful at virtually everything he has ever done in his life. He built himself up from not much (I won't say nothing, but still, not much), so it's probably hard for someone like him to admit defeat and hand over the reigns. This doesn't make being fans of the team any easier, but I at least understand it. And until I can make about $10 billion and buy him out, I don't think anything is going to change that.

This is absolutely not true. Jerry knows what it takes to win, and refuses to do it.

Romo saved Jerry's franchise for being the most popular in the world. Even though we were mediocre a lot of his years he brought excitement to the Cowboys and made people want to watch. You put out that crap we did the first 3 weeks and see how long that lasts. I could barely watch it.
