I would have adored Coach Q in LA, but he will want a more competitive team than the Kings, and certainly a faster team like his Hawks teams were. Rumor is LA is giving a long look at their new assistant coach, Marco Sturm, for the eventual HC job (Desjardins is only interim, most likely a stop gap till the end of the season). Sturm just coached a rag tag Germany team to an Olympic silver medal. He has a lot of hype as an ascending coach, so the Kings snatched him up before anyone else could and are gonna give him a good look.

Still, LAK are old, slow, lack intensity because some of the key personalities in the locker room have become diva malcontents after getting fat on two Cups. Cohesion on the team, the lines, is nonexistent due to so many line blenders under Stevens. Bloated contracts, while playing soft. It's all bad. Our two best players so far this season are flipping Dustin Brown and Kovy, 34 and 35 respectively. Kopitar is MIA. Kings need to rebuild, but AEG (owner) would probably fire Rob Blake, rather than give him a green light to make some major trades, nor will ownership be enthusiastic at the thought of losing a few thousand season seats while we tank for a couple seasons. Adding a pair of top-10 picks to the prospect pool would be a major boon for this franchise, worth a couple seasons of suck. At least there'd be a plan, and much needed youth and skill. Gabe Vilardi, LA's top prospect who was supposed to start this year on the Kings, coming out of the OHL with a ton of hype and barely 19 when the season began, well he's made of glass. 19 years old in a 91 year old body. Back problems, soft tissue injuries. He keeps getting his no-contact practices pushed back. Now it looks like he will not be cleared for contact until sometime next month. Sean Lee is proud. Tanner Pearson has regressed into Tobias Rieder.

Kings just had their first non-sellout in almost 7 years, ended at 297 sellouts in a row. December 2011 against John's Panthers is when the streak started. Not bad for hockey in Los Angeles and palm trees :)

What a nasty sports year. At least Kings tickets are dirt cheap..

Would be cool to see Sturm be a good coach. Was a good player in the NHL for a while.

Glad to see Luongo back in net. Man, the Panthers need to find his replacement soon though.

Anyone want to tank for Hughes with Reimer? lol

It will be interesting to see who gets fired next and Quenville gets hired...great coach.
I think it's only a matter of time before Yeo is out in STL.

Quenneville makes sense for a competitive roster, and STL has one, even though they aren't playing particularly well.

I tend to think coach Q will be selective, and want to go where the talent is. St. Louis might be the spot.

@Trouty

How you feeling about the Pearson for Haglin trade?

Downgraded in age, but I guess Pearson been stinking it up lately and was signed through 2021.

Cap dump, John. Tanner has 2 more years at 3.75. If he doesn’t rebound in Pit, he’s overpaid by 2.5 or so. But they have playmakers over there, and if all he needed was a change of scenery, they done good.

We have no idea if this is Blake clearing cap for something else, or to clear space for Doughty’s contract that kicks in next season. Most believe Hagelin is getting moved at TDL.

We sold Pearson so low. I just made a post about him in our sub the other day, wondering if it would be selling tooo low right then (when rumors first surfaced). He has been a shell of his former self, man. Some think it’s because of a new baby but I called bs on that. It’s not even just his point totals, he’s lost his energy, focus, skating (that’s mostly from a broken leg in ‘14), IQ, everything he was at least good at. We want a cleaning house of the vets. Kings have given up. Rudderless with no leadership. Kopi, Carter, Muzzin, AMart, Toffoli all must go. No one is touching Kopi right now, tho, due to his horrible play and huge contract

I changed my avatar over there to a tank (for Hughes). The whole sub is embracing it with white knuckles - the tank. Many feel this is our worst season in 30 years. Everyone has quit. Leaders are the most guilty. Kopi is a ghost. Doughty is a petulant child and reverted back to his pre-2011 inconsistent play (he had issues with consistency early on, but the last 6 years he’s been the best (in our unbiased opinion :) ).

I hope we ride Budaj to 31st. Call up MacDermid to beat the hell out of all the teams that get to play us and pad their stats.

Pearson trade won’t “be a wake up call.” Hopefully we do a lot more (at TDL). And this better not be setting up a Panarin trade!!!!

Leafs made us look like an OHL team last night. Without Matthews.

Kings fans now wait and see what’s next with this dumpster.

You think this season could hurt the chances of re-signing Drew?
I vaguely remember his comments about wanting to win more cups.
Definitely could see Haglin flipped for a 2nd depending on how well he does.

We signed him June 1st to 11x8. So he better just be going through some prolonged funk that is almost over, or outside issues. This can’t be Drew. If he is this guy, lawdy. He’s playing so distracted. No energy. Just chirping and crying every game. He started out by not being on ice for any of the Kings 16 goals against, then he joined the suck. Just in time for his retire a King deal.

He should age through the contract fine, provided he still cares. There’s a bug going around the locker room, dontgiveafookitis. This is worse than the 2015 mono outbreaks. This is eye bleed hockey we are stuck with with only 20% of the season complete. 3 of our 4 goalies are injured, incl two meniscus tears -Quick, Campbell.

Doh. Completely forgot lol. My bad man.

That's a damn shame, had real high hopes for them this year. Damn unlucky with the goalies

Been checking in on the standings from time to time. Islanders keep bouncing from 2nd to 8th/9th in the conference, it's tight. Hoping they could put something together, they usually don't so i just kind of skim along with the standings. I've only watched like 4 or 5 periods total this season.

There it is, i watch for 5 minutes and the Islanders are now losing 1-0. This has been happening for 34 years. That's why i don't watch much anymore.

Go Islanders!

I can't wait for post season hockey to start so that I can get excited for good hockey, again. Having to watch the Kings this season has been tough, almost a chore... and there's still 55 games left. The drama and organizational turmoil is compelling, but most of that was the Kovy vs Desjardins saga, but that died when Kovy got injured. Now it's wait for the trade deadline, and to see Blake's willingness and ability to be a major seller. There is no team identity, so if Blake has a plan for the team (cuz it sure seems like he's lost), this will be his first shot at building a foundation, by purging the current roster. Hopefully he takes a page out of last year's NYR. There shouldn't be a single player he wont take calls on.

Can't believe Wilson got rocked.

And that Reeves didn't get a game.
