Next Time we Discuss Dak's Stats

Don't understand the timing of this post. Didn't we win last week? I'm not in love with Dak either, but he made some nice throws, didn't turn the ball over, and got the "W". Can't we save the "Crap on Dak" threads for after a loss?

Right. That's akin to saying Big Ben's 97 yard TD pass should be disregarded because it had 70 YAC? Or Zeke isn't any good because he rushing 15 times for a 3.5 YPC and then has a 60 yard run. Stats don't lie, but they certainly are misleading when looked at in a vacuum. A stat can be found that supports any story a person wants to tell.

Great pass under pressure that led to the WR not being touched after the catch.

The equivalent would have been if Dak hit Gallup in stride instead of underthrowing him by 3-5 yards!

So you think Mariotta looked good last night AC? I thought he looked pretty bad for most of the night.
What game were you watching? Mariota passed the football very well. What did the Titans in were costly turnovers, plus the Texans running all over the Titans D. That was the difference. Houston QB Watson passed very poorly. It was all running with the football.

You anti-Dakkers blast Dak for his runs, but you are praising Houston's Watson for last night's rushing performance?

When evaluating a QB it makes perfect sense to ignore the YAC.

It's the throw that matters. What the receiver does with the ball after the completion is how you evaluate the receiver, not the QB.

Of course good ball placement leads to YAC but that can be evaluated by looking at the throw.

Some of you guys clearly have no objectivity when you consider these stats and are only using them to "prove" the conclusion you've already come to.

I love it when one poster brings up the Commanders and then I answer a question and I get called out for bringing up what the skins think.

Mistakes fine - panic not. No pocket presence!
huh? I was responding to a post, not yours.

Like when he made a play while being hit? Or are you only going to count Prescotts bad plays vs. other teams good plays?

Except that both of Cooper's TD passes were spot on. The point is, YAC are a viable part of every completion. It's simply wrong to exclude in one instance and not in another if one is basing their position on a stat. That's manipulating or form-fitting a stat to support a position.

By the way, I'm all on board with looking past a stat for, as Paul Harvey would say, and now the rest of the story.

Nice to see some are coming around to the fact stats can look like anything the statistician wants them to.

Scoreboard is the on;y stat which is accurate.

Missing the forest because the trees are in the way.

Actually, I am able to see the forest.

The truth is. The comparison of Mariota and Dak’s games is weak at best.

The gsmes and situations the QB’s during the game were very different.

I’m also able to think critically and call Dak out for the things he isn’t doing well and the areas of his game that hurts the team. Without making the completely asinine argument about removing his best plays to discredit anything he does positively.

Removing players best plays to evaluate them is one of the weakest and most idiotic arguments in all of sports.

The truth is, I have been critical of Dak many times and called him out when his plays was terrible.

But if you want to have an honest discussion about stats and removing certain plays because of YAC. The only fair way to do it, is present other QB’s stats minus YAC. Unless you do that. The argument is invalid.

I disagree about Dak being horrible essentially the entire game. Sure he wasn't Brees level, but despite a slow start I thought he played well. As for those two passes for the big yards, first, it makes no sense to discard those, as if he didn't throw and complete those passes, second, every other QB gets credit for the yardage after the catch so why shouldn't Dak, and third, even if Cooper hadn't gained the yardage after the catch it was still a first down and the drive would have continued, likely with Dak throwing for more yardage.
As I've previously noted in our 3 game win streak those two passes accounted for almost 20% of Dak's total yardage while accounting for 2% of his pass attempts.

They are outliers and as such are treated as such.

Not true. Especially since the scoreboard is not a stat.

The score is the only thing that matters in the end, but it is erroneous to believe that all other stats are irrelevant. To be accurate, stats must be taken in context w/ all facets taken into account.
