Professional contracts, especially in football, are based almost entirely on the value placed upon the player's worth to the current franchise versus both the perceived value of other franchises have for the player and expected future contributions from said player. Contracts have far FAR less to do with how fans evaluate the worth of a player.

A contract's dollar amount is based on the former. Not the latter. Any insanity some fans place on the $$$ of a contract and 'blame' the player is totally misplaced.

Romo got paid. His contract had somewhat of a tangible detrimental impact on the franchise's salary cap. However, he got paid what Jones thought he should pay him in order to retain his services. If anyone should faced fans' irrational displeasure over Romo's contract, it should have been Jones. Speaking of which...

In my opinion, it is 99% assured Prescott will get paid within the next eight months. Guess what? Some people will never still not understand how professional contracts are finalized and their first reaction after getting the details of Prescott's new contract shall be "What the <expletive>?" Guess what part deux? Prescott's contract may have somewhat of a tangible detrimental impact on the franchise's salary cap.

So. Do not hate the playa. Hate the game. Or at the very least some people should consider not doing a Romo on Prescott this time around.

Or better yet do as I did over a decade ago and rant continuously about ending the salary cap altogether! Those were good times. :) Good times. :(

I don't blame Romo for getting his money but would like to see us do something with Dak while we have him cheap and can keep good players at other positions .
Should have him cheap for another year I believe if he dosent improve to an appropriate level don't extend him and Draft when we have a first round pick .

These idiots screaming they want an elite QB need to understand we have to wait till we have the resources to get one . Till then Dak is our QB I will support him and hope he dose well . If he fails we move on when we have the tools to do so

Regular season wins don't mean much when you never get past the first round of the playoffs. Keep celebrating mediocrity I guess.

Some of you people must live miserable lives.... He has won more games since he came in than everyone but Brady. He has led the team to a 4 game winning streak and leading the NFC East. He is not perfect, but he has led the team to winning games and being relevant. He is not Brady or Brees but he is winning in a Pop Warner offense.

Dak could lead the team to the Super Bowl and win it, and you people will be miserable and not enjoy it! I imagine that those most miserable people, Dak haters were at one time Romo haters, that all of sudden forgot how much Romo was killed on this same board.

It really isn't anyone hating Dak. So much as it is the credit he gets for wins, and the talk as if he is elite. Especially when people use stats for their arguments. Because, when you really break things down, he isn't responsible for wins. We have a hard time thinking about Jerry possibly handing him some Cousin's type contract that cripples the team. Especially when you think of everything with the wins we have, and Dak (the first person to touch the football on a play) is last on the list on why we won.

The pop warner offense is more in place, because of the talent of the QB. Does anyone here honestly think we would be calling these screen plays on 3rd and long 50 times, with a QB that has an accurate arm? Come on... I can't stand Garrett, and Linehan like many people, but they aren't that friggin stupid. They have been in football for a long time.

Dak very well could get a ring, but it won't be because of his talent, it will be because of this defense keeping the score low. If they can't do that... Dak is not sniffing a Super Bowl.

Yet the defense won't get the credit for it, people will give Dak the credit for it.

LVE, Cooper, Jaylon, Jones, DLAW, Martin, Zeke... those guys are all more important than Dak is to this team.

How many Super Bowl teams do you remember where you could put that many players over the QB in rank of importance to the team? That basically says it all...

What effect could a huge contract to Dak have on this team in the future?

I prefer being civil to folks but good grief, the trolling nonsense is just too much.
Guys have went from blank " he sucks" to " my eyes" to " I feel" nonsense.
Jerry isn't calling anyone on this board for advice.

So we can discuss numbers, what they mean, where Dak can improve and even where you go to get another QB IF you want one.
But discussing what someone finds "acceptable" personally... is a big fat LOL.

I had a lengthy ignore list and purged it about 3 months ago to give everyone a fresh start.
Not surprisingly 10-12 folks had to go back on.
So ultimately, I guess, reading that nonsense was my own fault.
And a mistake I wont make again.

No you mean bus driver I see potential franchise QB
Its not just being a Passer . Its being a QB THE TOTAL PACKAGE. A guy who can follow the game plan , not worried about individual Statistics , or proving he can shoot it out with Drew Brees . A guy who can put the team on his back and do whatever is necessary to win , A leader that puts team accomplishments ahead of his own . A guy that's in shape and built to take the pounding of the NFL and get back up and finish the game

Nowhere in your post do you mention his ability to throw the ball, to read defenses or look off the safety, you know things that top flight qbs do. That's like someone hooking you up with a blind date, you ask "how does she look"? They answer "she has a great personality and a good job" buddy that tells you everything you need to know about her looks.

First off nonsense.
The small handful of people tossing out positive posts about Dak are battling a full on tide of idiocy.

Dak is the player single most responsible for wins as he is the QB.

He is not the BEST player but he is the most responsible over the course of a season.

That's why QBs get paid 20% of the salary cap on a league wide basis. This team wasn't winning games with Brandon Weedon whether you had Zeke, DLaw and others or not.
QB is by far the most important position.

People that that try to minimize that fact and pretend Dak is just another guy at QB that could easily be replaced are frankly stupid.
They should not be allowed to reproduce, much less post here making others stupid too.

Dak has 5 ints and 5 lost fumbles this season total of 10 TOs Wentz has 9 TOs 6 int and 3 lost fumbles .

Goff also has 6 Ints with 4 lost fumbles #1 picks who would have thought Dak would be right there with them
Lets go to some Elite big money guys Rodgers has 5 lost fumbles , Wilson has 5 Ints and 5 lost fumbles Cousins has 7 Ints and 5 lost fumbles , Ryan has 5 INts and 5 lost fumbles, Luck has 11 Ints and 3 lost fumbles

The GOAT TOM BRADY has 7 ints and 4 lost fumbles How could that be more TOs than Dak??

Best yet Romo had 32 fumbles in his 1st 3 yrs and Dak only has 24.

Yes Dak absolutely has to clean this fumbling up but he is not turning the ball over by fumble or INT anymore than the top draft picks of his class or the most elite QBs in the league so the exaggerations can stop now
Now compare how many TD's they have to Dak's.

Hopefully, you and anyone else will not blame Prescott when he gets paid and possibly get paid more than what some believes he deserves. Consequently, Jones should not get blamed for not using a premium (e.g. first round) pick at quarterback after he extends Prescott's contract, which will coincidence with that of any other franchise quarterback.

I subscribe to the Romo Gone /Prescott could be good if give the chance perspective . But yes I have grown tired of people building the legend of Tony Romo into something it never was in an attempt to discredit Dak
It is true some people try discrediting Prescott. That is an example of the unfair criticism I often refer to. However, it is also true other people try building a mythology around Prescott. It is the exact same thing as constructing The Legend of Antonio Ramiro Romo.

Both parties are wrong. Neither Prescott nor Romo were/are as bad or great as these unending fables have made them out to be. It is also unfortunate false storytelling for both men has not been limited to fans alone. Media talking heads have been and are just as guilty of the nonsense. There are few things in the world that are harder to negate than self-perpetuating false narratives.

That's the way it works in the NFL, like it or not. When Romo went 13-3 it was Romo who went 13-3 not Demarcus Ware or Bradie James that went 13-3. Same with the head coach, he's judged as to his record. All Qbs and all head coaches are judged on that. Just because you don't like Dak doesn't mean that you can use the record for all other QBs but not Dak.

But that's fine, if you want to judge him that way, go ahead. But many of us fans look forward to rooting for our team and be happy when our team wins. I think that's what fans do. If you and your compadres want to be miserable, win or lose, by all means knock yourself out. But please don't invade every thread with you whining about Dak. Make one thread and stay there with your misery and those who enjoy being miserable with you, because of Dak. This is nothing new, the same thing happened when Romo was here. Same *****ing and complaining about everything he did, probably bu the seam posters.

And no I'm not a blue glasses wearing fan. I am very critical of this team, and always have been. Sure Dak has flaws, but as Parcells used to say, you are what your record says you are. Unfortunately that also applies to Garret, whom I think is the biggest issue with this team. But there's nothing I can do about it, there's not a damn thing you can do about Dak. And really, there's nothing you or I or anyone not named Jones can do about it.

So I will just keep watching and being a fan, and try as hard as I can not to let miserable "fans" make me miserable when I should be happy with a win. Again all we ask is for you and your posse of misery to not hijack every damn thread with you misery and hate for Dak.

Are you referring to Quincy, Romo or Dak? Or is it Parcells, Wade or Garrett? Or maybe Ware, Witten and Lee?

Jerry is a pretty smart business man of course he is going to say he will extend Dak at this juncture . But he has the option to let him play out his contract and see if he matures in to the quality QB he wants for the future .

I wont blame Dak for taking the money but I wont be happy if we are getting poor value because of poor performance . That is why I believe Jerry got Cooper to give Dak a fair shot to do well .

If Jerry extends him and he is not playing well there is nothing we can do but it sure wont make very good business sense when you have another year to test the product

How on earth can you post this in the face of all the facts that do not support it.

24th in points scored while 6th in rushing yards.

27th in passing yards.

Managed 13 points in the last game but won solely because of a stellar defensive performance.

Fumbled the ball away late in the fourth and was bailed out by an interception made by a teammate.

None of that is absolute fact?

Dak is most responsible for that win?

I think not.

Well, I do think at least when I say something about Dak, I give the reasons why I am critical of him (most of the time, unless I am joking around)... versus just saying Dak sucks, or something. ;)

But, I really am not miserable about this team. I stuck with them when they were 1-15, will continue to stick with them.

My career has been a life of programming. So I just have a habit of breaking things down to variables. I just don't think the value assigned to the variable that is Dak, makes or breaks this team, compared to other players, like the ones I mentioned.

There is zero in common between Dak and Aikman. Aikman was a pure bred qb who was deadly with the ball in his hands, Dak is doing his best to become some semblance of a qb. The only thing that Dak has over Aikman is the contract that Jerry will sign Dak to.

Yet Aikman lived up the dink and dunk offense which people complain about Dak doing.

At this point the value assigned to Dak is about 700k a year . That enables us to keep and employ all those other names you mentioned and maybe some high quality FA to fill in a hole at TE and Safety . This number of quality players on the team makes wins possible .

We already did it the other way and watched a less talented team let our QB down as he had to do it all himself We tried it for years IT LED TO 8-8 over and over again .

Should we have gone after Cousins and paid him 28million so he could get in a shoot out with Drew Brees and because we didn't have any money to pay the defense lose games because its fashionable to have no defense and high scoring games . I think not but I am old school and will take a butt ugly win over a fashionable loss any time .

Dak has things to work on he is not a finished product yet but we have him cheap for another year . He is not losing us games he just wins them ugly at times . I am more than happy to let this all play out and see if Dak matures . Contrary to what we have been used to it is not a mortal sin to have your defense do its job and close a tight game out for you.
This game is SUPPOSED to be a TEAM EFFORT not fall on the back of one guy .

We probably pay our whole front 7 less than 28 million. Sorry but I will take Dak his issues that can be corrected and all the talent he lets us afford and win games rather than over pay a guy who keeps us talent poor and losing
