Yeah, a Mongoose BMX bike was pretty high on my list too.
Man...I would've killed for a Mongoose Californian

But my parents took "bike" on my want list for a "Huffy 10-speed". I rode the crap out of that 40lb steel POS though...easily put 100+ miles on it (even though it only had about 3-4 working gears left and no brakes...).

Then, for my 12th-13th Christmas, I got a Diamondback, that was stolen about a year later. I never cried that much in my life....crushed. Love that bike. I loved having a BMX bike so much that, even after I was driving, I bought a GT Interceptor when I was 16 years old. Then, probably 15 years later, when I was stationed in South Carolina (bicycling is big there), I bought a mint, decked-out GT Fueler. Me and my other 30 year-old buddies would ride around downtown on mid-school BMW bikes on the Friday nights. Totally. Fuggin.Radical!

Now, I'm "all grown-up" and rocking a Cube LTD mountainbike (Fox shocks).

I used to race bikes in circuits. This Mongoose was my main bike from the age of 12-15 :flagwave:

Not really a toy but a Remington 336c in .35 rem when I was ten.

With that and the Winchester 20 gauge youth model shotgun I got for my birthday the same year I was finally going to be able to hunt with the adults.

The gift I always wanted for Christmas was a BB gun. My older brother got shot in the eye (not kidding) so that messed it up for me. My dad would say nope, nope, & nope.

I have one now ;)

Btw my brother didn’t lose his eyesight but has always had problems with it.
I had a friend who got shot with a BB gun.....deliberately from a neighbor hellion. Hit him in the face....clean through his cheek and he spit the bloody BB out. And proceeded to beat the kid.

My brother got drafted in 66, eight years after the bb to the eye. VN was full blown at the time. He failed his physical when they saw his pupil was oblong shaped and that eye was very sensitive to light. GIs were coming back in body bags (RIP). Hindsight that incident probably saved his life.

Green Army Men. My Dad had the whole kitchen table filled with Green Army Men and they were fighting German Toy Soldiers. Yes they had the German Helmets and they were plastic gray. It started an obsession that led to Cowboys & Indians, Knights & Vikings, Minutemen vs Red Coats,Yankees vs Rebels. When my friends wanted to play with Toy Soldiers ,I had the best and had to drag outside atleast 2 full green garbage bags full of soldiers...Then my Dad painted a few of the Knights & Vikings for me and that started another obsession of me painting all my Toy Soldiers with model paints. They were sharp!!! I even made Hitler.I lost them all because when I went off to the Marines .My Mom threw them out not knowing. My Army men were not just painted green they had flesh tone and not just green, but jungle camoflauge. The Knights were silver, the Vikings looked awesome! I even had a Black Knight.....My Cowboys and Indians and American Revolutionary were already painted.... You remember the plastic figurine chess set? I painted them also.. The white were from England and silver and blue uniforms, Blonde ,red, and brown haired and The Black looked like Arabs with black and gold and flesh tone was dark tan. So big were those figurines, I could even give the pawns faces their own personalities. Some had beards, some clean shaven, some had goatees,or a moutashes.

We used to have shootouts, but there was a 3 or 4 pump limit, IIRC.
We had a few BB gun fights in my day but Mostly we fought each other with bottle rockets and other fireworks including Roman candles, Saturn missile batteries and anything else that would fly & burn. No safety gear to speak of. My mom would just shake her head when I cane home with half my clothes burned off my body. We used to fight these kids from the other side of town but they gave up after I hit one of their group with a whistling bottle rocket that hit him straight in the chest and flew up underneath his chin and exploded there. They had no more heart after that. And for the rest of his school career he was known as “charcoal chin”.
Heady times.
