Huh? At what point did my post reference Tony Romo? QB rating was a stat implemented in the 70’s that weights simply completing passes way too heavily. The idea of what the passing attack is like in the nfl today wasn’t even conceivable in 1973, so why are using the same stats? So yeah when discussing any QB past the year 2000, qb rating shouldn’t be used.

Not your post in particular but I’ve been in forums now for the better part of 10-14 years and that whole passer rating was used at nauseum for him. 4th all time etc. I’m just saying if it applies then it applies now didn’t mean yours in particular you just happened to talk about passer rating

Brad johnson threw for 4000 yards in 1999 when that was a huge feet. I have to wonder whether Dak will ever throw for 4000. If we had Brad Johnson right now we would be the favorite to win the super bowl.

Trent Dilfer won a super bowl by not making mistakes, throwing as little as possible, and having an all world Defense. Dak can win that way with such added running ability to boot.
This is the kind of goofy statement that peels back who is 15 and who actually watched Brad Johnson play.
Johnson passed for 4k yards once in his entire career(his 6th season) and the year he did it he had 24 TDs with 13 INT.

DAL would not be a Super Bowl favorite with basically any QB right now beyond Tom Brady or Drew Brees.
The issues along the OL are very real and the team is the youngest in football.
And putting in a gunslinger with only 1 true receiving weapon would be foolhardy.

This team is built to win the way Dak Prescott is playing.
Play his best when it matters most first and foremost.
Maintain a QB rating of 95+ and do not turn the ball over.
And that is why the team is 31-16.
The best 3 season stretch since 2007-2009.

Dak could put up 4000 yard passing easily if we ran a hurry up spread offense and let er rip.
But Andy Reid has 1 playoff game win since 2009 in a pass heavy system.

DAL replaced a franchise QB and GOT BETTER. That is insanely rare and every Cowboys fan should giddy as can be.

Really? So Romo was average, because through same number of games the rating is awfully close.
OMG, Dak lovers and this Romo thing? when did I even mention Romo? that's like the go to defense by all the Dak lovers...they have nothing else, so they just mention Romo....screw Romo. he has been retired for 2 years...right now, at this point Dak is very very very average at best. he has been average for three years.

I stand corrected....he is a smidgen above average..

here comes the Dak lovers and their first line of defense..... Romo was worse in his first three years.... the no other excuse out by Dak lovers....

I'm very aware of the cap mgmt and mis-mgmt much of it led by paying Romo "Payton Manning money".
The SB QBs have often been cheap cap hits.

Last year Brady and Foles combined to earn ~19M. 6M less than Romo would have earned alone.
Romo priced himself out of the team's plans and the league essentially.
Same reason Indy gave up on Payton.

At QB part of being a leader is being cap friendly.
If Dak comes in under 25M long term this team will be set at QB for a long time.
If he wants to play hard ball and negotiate for every cent we will be strapped, win less and he likely gets axed eventually.

Money is important in real life and even more important in the NFL.
Top 10 QB cap hits in 2018"
1. Jimmy G --team ousted
2. Stafford --team ousted
3. Derek Carr --team ousted
4. Flacco --benched and replaced by cheap QB. play has dropped off big time since he was paid.
5. Luck --fighting for playoff berth.

5 NFL R1 drafted QB are starting from the 2018 class because money matters.

Aaron Rodgers is truly a legend but he's not worth 20M more than Dak Prescott per year.
More of these guys need to be like Tom Brady.

A lot of truth to that post.

Do people really try to use qb rating like its a relevant stat in 2018?
It's no less relevant a stat than passing yards.
Especially passing yards when down 7+ and the opponent is playing prevent.

It's just another measure.
I like QBR more than passer rating but ESPN won't release the formula used.

Mostly like wins because that's what actually matters. Troy was better than guys who put up far greater stats because he played to win and he didn't pad stats; we ran 22 to end games and score TDs.
Play in 4th quarters/OT and game within 7 points is critical and if the rating ignores that it isn't very smart.

Folks that think Romo was better than Aikman are never going to like Dak.
Folks who loved Aikman will see a lot of Troy's game in Dak.

If we had Brad Johnson right now we would be the favorite to win the super bowl.
That would depend on which of the three seasons you're talking about. Johnson ranked 5th in passer rating the season you're describing, 22nd the next season. Imagine our record with this defense, and Prescott ranking 3rd in passer rating as he did in his rookie season.

Prescott and Johnson both ranked 12th over the three-season stretch I posted.

PFF's numbers from yesterday's games have been posted, and I wanted to put this one up.

Nobody's talking about this, but there has been a massive improvement against the blitz over the last five games.

Prescott vs. Blitz
Games 1-10
48 of 87 (55%) 542 yd (6.2 ypa) 3 td 3 int 71.1
Games 11-15
45 of 55 (82%) 463 yd (8.4 ypa) 3 td 0 int 119.9

he is in the end an average QB... you settle for average with your stat defending..... like the 160 total passing yesterday...AWSOME so above average.
I don't care about the tangents you go on. Fact is what you said was foolish and highlights your bias to the point you cant even make coherent arguments

Dak is a top 12-15 QB then. About the same or a little better than romo.

Dak is not a better QB than Romo.

I want Dak to get better and become the best QB we have ever had(of course I want that for any QB we have). I want Dak to lead us to Super Bowls but right now I feel we win in spite of Dak instead because of Dak.

Are wins a relevant stat in 2018?

passer rating (W-L)
100+ (132-53-1) .714
80-99.9 (68-60-1) .531
<80 (37-125-2) .228

That's how you interpret the passer rating.

That being said, Dak gets short-changed in the NFL passer rating because his rushing numbers and TD's aren't included in the passer rating (yeah, I know it's a "passer" rating).

Bottom line I think Dallas could do better at the position, but they could more likely do worse.

He will be the starting QB come next season I would expect his numbers will improve.

Folks who loved Aikman will see a lot of Troy's game in Dak.

That's funny because I was just watching Cowboys vs Giants from 1993 on youtube and didn't see anything remotely similar between Dak and Aikman. In fact it was exactly the opposite, I was staggered at how much better Troy threw the ball. Having watched Dak the last 3 seasons and not seeing Troy in so long it was like a slap in the face seeing prime Troy. The difference was night and day, and frankly depressing. They might be playing in similar systems, and they might both have had an amazing running game, but that's where the similarities end.

“I don’t care what his numbers or our W/L record is! My eye test is more important than winning football games!!”
:angry::angry::angry::angry:

I watched Tom Brady look like **** yesterday.

I watched Josh Allen (Who the Bills fans continue to be ga-ga over) look like **** yesterday.

To think every team in the NFL is getting great quarterbacking week in and week out is goofy.

Prescott is not a top-10 QB. But I'd put him in the 12-14 range based on this season. Not great, but the Cowboys could do far worse.
